Original documents

So i have a question. I just had my interview yesterday at the dublin us embassy and i got approved. But when i was at the counter going through the paperwork. The lady told me i would not be getting my original documents back (birth cert and marriage cert).

So i am just wondering if anyone else had this said to them or if anyone did get their original documents back???

I didn't have my interview yet but as far as I know , they keep the originals so you better get some more copies (if you don't have them already)in case you need them in future

Thanks so much! My husband found a site i can get certified documents so i think i am sorted!!! Good luck with interview and bring a book or something with you. I was there for nearly 3 hours and they were only interviewing 4 of us!!!

Happened to me, my originals were not returned to me at the embassy. Everything was sealed in the brown envelope. I tried getting them back at the port of entry, no luck there either. I applied to get them back by filing a G884 downloaded from the USCIS website. I got everything returned to me after a couple of months.

Thanks for that information! If the site i applied too for my birth certificate doesn't work i will look into that G884. I honestly thought we got our documents back . Thanks again for your help

Saw a cute cartoon yesterday with a dog saying to its master, "If you wanted that ball, why did you throw it?" If you wanted your originals back, you needed to offer copies in their place. They don't make copies for themselves and give the originals back.

I can speak for myself, i DID go with several copies of each document and OFFERED and the "nice" lady did NOT agree to switch them and give me the originals back, for whatever reason.
