In the Age of Reagan, it came to pass that the GOP consolidated itself as the party of people who are white and Christian. Everybody else—black, brown, women, gays, immigrants, urban dwellers, non-Christians, you name it— found themselves on the receiving end of conservative scapegoating so often that they eventually decamped and aggregated in the other party. At this point, it's statistically true that If you are either not white or not Christian, then you are (with varying degrees of certainty, depending on what you identify as) far more likely to be a Democrat. This has left us in an interesting situation where the vast bulk of the country's swing voters are white Christians with progressive tendencies, who can be induced to vote either way depending on what values you can activate in them. This gives them political power far beyond their actual numbers, because winning a presidential election is largely reduced to being able to find and work the political, cultural, and religious sweet spots of this one group.

It's also given the GOP a real advantage where group solidarity is concerned. Their shared grounding in white Christian conservationism gives the GOP its notoriously unshakable consensus on worldview and goals—a unity that has consistently proven to be its strongest political advantage. On the other hand, the polyglot Democrats have become a motley crew of Everybody Else Trying To Get Along, in spite of widely varying worldviews and often irreconcilable goals. Without that same kind of coherent vision of what we hope to achieve, the progressive side is damned fragile. And conservative strategists know this.

GOP: All men are created equal under the law. We believe everyone should be treated the same and be free to make their own choices in life. There are poor Americans and there are wealthy Americans who need to work together for the greater good. We all have a role to play.

It seems you are the kind of person who might be interested in purchasing a bridge...

All men are created equal ... unless they're black.

We believe everyone should be treated the same ... unless they're homosexual and want to get married. Then they should be denied this right and be treated differently.

We believe everyone should be free to make their own choices in life ... unless they're women choosing abortion. Then they're baby killers and we rich, white men shall control their womb!

3 misguided examples... tsk tsk.

your example A) - was Democrats who held down the black man (and still do actually)

your example B) - homosexuals can get married under the law. No one is stopping a homosexual man from marrying a woman or vice versa. You're also confusing the "GOP" with the "religious right" they are not as synonymous as you might want to make them out to be.

your example C) - despite what you want to call it, advocates murder. "It's ok to kill, so long as the person is in your body. So theorhetically you can legally cut off a man's junk if he's inside the woman. I mean after all, it's inside of her at that point, so that doesn't count as part of another person.

Why would a homosexual man want to marry a woman?!

If you don't agree with abortion, don't have one.

So basically, what you're telling me is that the GOP accepts and tolerates everyone equally ... unless they disagree with them on the issues. Got it.

They do. They accept, tolerate and even embrace everyone who thinks exactly like them, equally....

I accept, respect, and tolerate you because you agree with me. If you didn't ... we'd have problems.

Funny, I only hear this from democrats and race pushers, I've never heard these words from a conservative. I live in Massachusetts, one of the most liberal states there is, yet it also has the reputation of being one of the most racist states there is. Go figure.

We believe everyone should be treated the same ... unless they're homosexual and want to get married. Then they should be denied this right and be treated differently.

As for homosexuals having the same rights as everyone else and being allowed to marry, I agree. It's when they want special treatment, that I disagree with.

I agree 100%! Woman's body, woman's right to choose! The gov't should have no say in this matter.

TeddyB, I don't believe anyone should have special rights either. If people are going to proclaim that everyone is created equal, I expect everyone to be treated that way - EQUALLY. That's not currently the case, so it's laughable that people are trying to convince others that it is.

Also agreed that the government has absolutely no place in a women's reproductive choices. But again, people feel the need to try and force their beliefs on others and try to make laws out of those beliefs.

Listen, I don't care who is pro-gay marriage or pro-choice or pro-whatever. Your beliefs do not impact my life. Just like two men getting married does not impact my life. Just like a woman choosing to have an abortion does not impact my life. I want everyone to have options. I want everyone to live their lives the way they want to live them. I want less government in our homes, in our sex lives, at work, etc.

I think it's HILARIOUS that someone's actually trying to say the GOP holds the same beliefs.

Why would a homosexual man want to marry a woman?!

If you don't agree with abortion, don't have one. Not sure how to cut off a man's junk while he's inside a woman ... unless there's some kind of razor blade type device all up in there. But I'm not sure that's practical. I'll have to think on this one.

So basically, what you're telling me is that the GOP accepts and tolerates everyone equally ... unless they disagree with them on the issues. Got it.

Oh please. The ignorance you spew by being brainwashed by a party is hilarious.

You'll have to excuse my abortion argument as I don't give two flying fvcks if someone has one or not. Personally, I think people should stop breeding period, but hey whatever floats your boat.

The 'example' on homosexuality is the point that the law is truly not discriminatory. It treats everyone equally when the definition of marriage is between one man and one woman. You want to change the law? Change what marriage is defined as or take 'marriage' out of the mix and make it a civil contract between two individuals. Who should it just be limited to couples?

Either way, both parties are wrong on a lot of issues when it come down to it. Maybe not 100% wrong, but there's always a comrpomise there if they're willing to open their eyes.

What irks the hell out of me is the perception that one party is racist and the other is not. There are blatant racists/bigots in both parties, but one party tries to mask it by blaming the other. The Democrats do more to harm the "black community" than anything the GOP has done to them in the past 30 years. It's pathetic.
