I guess my case will be transferred/or on its way to Montreal consulate. Should I call them to inquiry about the process or just wait? When is a good time to schedule a medical exam and to take all the vacc they need?

Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks

Calling the Montreal consulate is completely useless so I wouldn't even bother. Its all automated.

You can start calling the Department of State in about a week. Once they tell you that Packet 3 has been sent out, as opposed to waiting for it to come you can get start getting everything together. You can get all the forms here:

http://photos.state.gov/libraries/canada/303578/montreal/packet3-k1-mtl.pdf

^^ that is packet 3.

All the info is also in this thread:

Hey! We received approval on May 31st from Vermont so looks like we are in the same boat! Call the National Visa Center and ask them if the case has been received. I'm sure it has been. Ask them for the Montreal Case #. It will start with MTL. And, ask them if the case has been forwarded to the consulate. They will likely tell you what date it's been sent. Mine was sent out last Friday.

Once you have the Montreal case #, wait a week or so and start calling the Montreal Consulate to see if your case has been logged. It seems to take about 2 weeks for them to log and another 2 weeks before you'll receive Packet 3!

As for the vaccinations, I'm going through that now as well. I got my immunization records from my Community Health Dept. and then took the form to my family doctor to go over. She sent me for blood work to see if I'm immune to chicken pox and made sure I had everything I needed. Waiting for blood work to come back now...suspect I'll need a new tetanus shot!

Good luck! :)

So we should keep each other posted!!! :-) Any idea they will send out the package 3&4 by Canada post or DHL? The delivery guys from Canada post have messed up my mails for a few times!!!

As for the Vacc, I have seen some posts saying that it's not necessary to get the Vacc report at this stage but you will need it to apply to change your status...? It is just a rumor or it has been validated? Any idea?

Sorry to say but get used to it. Every step feels like an eternity. And Montreal is notoriously slow. From my experience, it seems anything that goes through their mail room sits there for about 2 weeks before anything is done with it. To speed things up, you can keep calling DHS and as soon as they mailed your Packet 3 instructions, send them your completed forms. Wait 2 weeks, then start calling DHS again until they tell you they mailed your Packet 4 instructions (which is making an appointment with consulate and your medical).

Instructions for Packets are available online here: http://montreal.usconsulate.gov/visas/visas.html

But you cannot speed things up by going faster than they go. You have to wait for them to mail you the instructions before you send your packet.

And you know what? Seems like there is an approximately 4-month window for the interview waiting, more than 250 days from the initiated petition.

You mean 4 months wait from the moment you are allowed to make an appointment or 4 months to go through the whole process in Montreal? I interviewed in April last year and most everyone going through Montreal for a K1 could book about a month ahead when they received Packet 4.

Hi! Really, we just need to wait for our case to be logged. I'd give it about a month. So, July 10th or so start calling the DOS to see if packet 3 has been sent to you. Don't wait for it to show up, go on the website and follow the packet 3 intructions. As long as they have your case, you can send in all the documents required. From the looks of it, it's another month before packet 4 is sent out. Don't wait for this one either. Once DOS tells you it's been sent out, you are eligible to book an interview and medical. I am a little worried about not having the appointment letter in hand for the medical/interview though...

Vacc - You don't NEED it at this stage but it's just as easy to get it overwith now. You can't file for AOS without it and it's a hassle getting your vaccinations in the U.S. I'm just going to get it all done before I leave. If you decide to go to the medical without, the doctor will work with you to determine which vaccinations you've had and likely give you the ones you are missing. :)

It doesn't expire, the embassy automatically extends the date when they get it.
