I am canadian getting married to my american b/f do i need a K-1 visa before i get married, or can we get married in the states and then adjust my status? please help!

You can't enter the U.S. with the intent to get married and remain to adjust status. That is what the K1 is for. It is illegal to do it without the K1. It is not illegal to come in and get married and then go back, but you have to make sure that you have enough evidence to consider the border guard that you will actually be returning to Canada.

My husband and I are both Canadian, and I recently became an American citizen. We have been married for 15 months, and are still waiting to be together. So whatever you decide to do, do it fast!

If you go the K-1 Visa route, you must get your visa, then move to the U.S., and then get married within 90 days of your arrival, and then Adjust Status.

You can marry in the U.S. before obtaining a visa, but you will not be able to remain in the U.S. You will have to return to Canada while your application for a K-3 Visa (marriage visa) gets approved. Even though it is not illegal to come to the U.S. and marry a U.S. citizen, it is illegal to remain in the U.S. before obtaining the K-3 Visa.
