Does sheriff joe arrest many illegal russians or ukrainians? How does his department know who might be illegal? My guess is that it is a whole lot safer for a blond, blue eyed russian illegal to stroll down the sidewalk there than for a latin american to do the same. How many 'white' people does he demand provide proof of citizenship from? Especially 6 year-old? Unless and until we have a national ID that we all must carry this area is going to remain a serious problem both for enforcement officials as well as for those who 'look like' they might be illegal (have brown skin)! Are we all in favor of that? If not, why not?

By that logic, visas should be granted at the same rate in Lagos or Casablanca as they are in London. Better yet we should have VWP for the whole world. Hell, let's just do away with USCIS and CBP.

Defending this sheriff is ridiculous. He isn't a "tough sheriff" at all -- he is a racist using his position of authority for his own racist agenda. Do you really think for a moment that any white person would be asked for proof of legal residence?

Stop with that whiny racist #######. This is the laws of the United States of America we are talking about, and nobody should be above the law, especially illegals. Shame on the both of you. In fact if i had my way the both of you would be deported to banana land. How many European's are are illegally crossing our southern border vs the number of hispanics.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Quote tags got all messed up on that last post. Anyway,

The adults that created the unusual circumstances are the parents. If I commit a crime in the U.S. the govt. doesn't spend anytime trying to figure out how to keep me and my child together. If I walk into Bank of America and stick a gun in someones face and ask for money and get caught, since I have a child I should be united with my child at a hotel? Your thinking is ludicrous.

Or on a less severe note. If I get caught shoplifting a pack of smokes with my kid in tow, we should be put up at a hotel? I feel for the kid. Not her fault, but this kinda thing happens all the time in situations that have nothing to do with immigration.

You seem to be the one here having "hotel" stuck on your brain. I never mentioned a hotel as an solution. I can't imagine why you keep bringing it up? I was referring to some other type of facility (for unusual cases such as these) I really don't understand why at least the mother couldn't be allowed to be with the child with ICE authorities there. The child may not even speak English -which would be terrifying for any child.

Ok, I don't see any other solution. Obviously the parents are being detained. I brought up a hotel because what else could they possibly do? I don't support the hotel option at all. I was throwing out a hypothetical. ICE runs detention centers. Adult and probably some juvenile detention centers. They don't run group homes for illegals with children. Nor should they. As far as English, there's probably more people speaking Spanish in Arizona than there are in Spain. I'm sorry the child has to go through this. The parents put the child in this position.

They just need to deport the whole family together, which I suspect is what will happen unless one of the parents are wanted for some crime here.

Seeing how your all for breaking the laws of this country then maybe you should see about living in Canada.

The racist card and the Hitler thing are the two most over used spiels on message boards. It's a white flag when someone is getting their ####### waxed in a thread.

I was actually mocking someone else who, in another thread very much like this one and about this topic, compared Obama to a tyrant and to Hitler.

But you're right, I should check out this "Canada" you speak of.

You seem to be missing my point. Let me try to be a bit more explicit. How would you like it if you were stopped on the street when you were fairly certain you had broken no laws. Identification was demanded and you had none with you proving your legal residence here. As a result your sorry a$$ gets to spend the night or more locked up, even though you are one of those 'native-born' american citizens. Is it or should it be relevant that you share external racial features with a group of people sometimes found to be here illegally? Is it OK for citizens of one of those demographics to be treated differently than those of us that are blond and blue-eyed?

Whoa there! When did this veer off into the differential rates of visa approvals? Quite a different topic, no?

Back in '98 I got profiled and pulled over and given the riot act for the fact my truck was a total pos and I lived in what some might call a posh neighborhood. I had my drivers license and SSC on me as always so no problem there.

I'm tired of hearing about all this ####### of letting illegals off the hook. If I had my druthers about it they would get a one way ride to a rock in the middle of the ocean and let the press run with the story so that word gets back to the rest of them that are considering illegally entering our country. I have no compassion whatsoever for illegals and their supporters.

My point (I thought it was clear) is that certain countries tend to commit visa fraud more than others. There's a reason some countries are allowed on the VWP, and others are not. Does that make it a racist policy? Isn't that some sort of racial profiling? Why is Canada (sort of) on VWP, but Mexico is not? They're both NAFTA countries.

There should still be a department of social services and a child protective agency. I hope that the repug budget cutters have not zeroed them out yet giving ever more tax cuts to the 1%. Think a little about what is accomplished by arresting a small child. You really are in favor of that here? That says something about you! :(

i don't know which is more pathetic and quite franky stupid. you posting this or someone giving it a +1. do you think this kid is in some general population setting with adults in a ice detention center? idk because its not part of the article the op linked. but, i'd be willing to bet she doing just fine with other kids in much more kid freindly facility than the adults that were arrested.

i'll ask you now too. would you rather the sheriff leave the girl alone where the arrests took place and let the coyotes that brought her here decide her fate? IF they ever came back. how about the next adult she came in contact with? or maybe just maybe she is better off being in a safe place with the authorities?

I must say that one that truly irks me to NO END are illegals that are allowed to stay or simply overlooked while here I am....just wanting to live my life with my husband and have him here with me so he can at least work and contribute to our society (he is not allowed to where he is now)and we can start our life here. He wants to come here LEGALLY. He's the best man I've ever known (apart from my Dad). With our decision to do things the right way... it infuriates me when people jump the borders or scam their way in and nothing is done about it.

However, that being said... I'm in support of Obama's policy because he makes it clear that he intends to enforce the deportation of illegals EXCEPT CHILDREN- or youth ..whatever you wish to call them- as long as they meet certain criteria.

In this particular case, the 6 yr old will and should be deported with the parents- and that's according Obama's own policy.

Your name is Franky?

You don't answer about what you think was accomplished by putting this 6 y/o through all the arrest procedures. I was pointing out to you that it was unnecessary to arrest this child to have a mechanism to keep her out of the hands of the 'coyotes'! I stand by my post!!

do you think she got frisked, cuffed, & stuffed in a car? maybe roughed up a little by the big bad sheriff & his men? i'm imagining a much softer arrest that you're imagining. they are police & they were conducting human trafficing bust. she was at the site...they pretty much had to arrest her to include her in the ice transfer. now you can blame the sheriff for using the resources avalible to him to ensure the safety of the child. or you can blame the childs parents for putting their daughter in that sitsuation...your choice.

eta: what was accomplished? there is a little girl who is safe, eating, has a place to sleep, and has a roof over her head.
