I already posted this question in the K-1 forum, but I figured I should probably post here too because Id have a better chance of getting advice from those who have already dealt with Casablanca on this sort of thing.

Ahmed and I are trying to decide on whether or not we should include a photo of us wearing our wedding rings with this proof he takes to his interview. Could this cause a problem at the consulate, perhaps making them think we are already married? Or would it help prove that we are serious about getting married? I seem to remember a story or two of some couples providing engagement ceremony photos to the consulate, and then having problems because the consulate demanded they prove they were not married, or just denying the case altogether. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Gabi and Ahmed

I am not married but I'm wearing my wedding band. When I got engaged they put the ring on my right hand. When we get married in a church, they will move it to my left hand. I'm not worried about them confusing our engagment photos for wedding photos because in Jordan the Embassy knows the customs. Its also not any faster to do the K-1 vs K-3.

Ooops! I guess my post was a little misleading. We're not married yet, but we have a photo of us wearing our wedding rings that we are thinking of submitting as proof at the K1 interview. We are concerned that showing it to the consulate might cause them to think we're already married and then possibly 86 our case. But would it be good proof that we are serious and committed to getting married?

How is that proof? Anyone can put a ring on their finger and take the photo. If you really want convincing evidence of your engagement then get an engagment certificate. I would concentrate on concrete proof as well, e-mails, phone calls, photos of your visit together, plane tickets, etc.

Good luck!

I remember seeing somewhere on visa journey that at an interview someone was asked if they had photos from the engagement party. We had already planned on bringing photos from the engagement party as I am pretty sure the moroccan consulate is familiar with this custom. we are also wearing our wedding rings and have pictures of exchanging rings that we intend to include. However we also a civil status statement from the city of marrakech stating that he is single.

I personally say go for it. i think they would be familiar with the custom. however, i would ask someone who has actually been through casa.

Ahmed also felt that the civil status statement would be a good idea. Since none of the forms ask for one, I never really thought about including it. Would it be prudent for him to include this form? Will it look funny if there is not one from me as well?

Gabi, I believe Said showed pics of us w/ our engagement rings on and our engagement ceremony. Our engagement rings look like wedding rings, but we will actually have other rings for our wedding. It wasn't a problem for us and I do know of at least 2 other couples offhand who showed pics/wore the ring(s) at the interview and it was fine. I say go for it.... but do what you are most comfortable w/.

As long as you have undesputed proof that you aren't already married it should be okay. If not I would leave off anything that might lead them to think you are already married.

'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride'

I think it's fine to include his but not yours. The U.S. database system of birth/marriages/deaths, etc. seems to me to be pretty well intact, leaving it pretty easy for them to find out if you've been married or not. At least when I worked for the state welfare system it was easily researchable. Not the case for morocco, though.
