I just got here last JUne 12,2012. I want to ask if when can I apply for SSN ? working permit? and AOS? I want to work while waiting for the wedding day which is in August 5. Can I apply for working permit during these days or I need to wait for 10-14 days? your info will be greatly appreciated. :help:

You can apply for SSN a couple weeks after you enter the United States.

You cannot apply for AOS or EAD (work permit) or AP (travel permit) until after you've gotten married. So there is no option to work until the wedding, sorry. EAD and AP fees are waived if you file them with AOS. I believe you technically can file for an EAD right now, but it would expire when your I-94 expires, and by the time you get it, it would be useless. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Be sure to read the following guides on the next steps. It can take about three months to receive the EAD, which is why it's recommended to apply for that authorization when you do the rest of the Adjustment of Status process. You aren't legally able to work until you have the EAD, so working before August is not likely.

For the EAD, you don't need a marriage certificate. You just need to evidence of admission, which is why it's technically possible to apply for it before the AOS process begins, but not recommended.

Most of info above is not true. EAD can applied for before AOS, however it will have validity date same as I-94 (3 months from entry) and has to be paid for (unlike one that is applied for during AoS), therefore applying for it before marriage makes little sense (since it takes ~2 months to get it).

So the answers are :

- SSN can be applied for immediately (although waiting 2 weeks is recomended)

- EAD - immediately but it's waste of money. Get married and apply for it with AOS

- AOS - as soon as you have marriage certificate.

The only wrong information given was that the marriage certificate is required for EAD.

What exactly written before your post is untrue? Everything you included is what others have said.
