C's wife may have had someother skill that assisted her with the micro job. What skills are you bringing to the table, I have listed 2 for you.

Communication skills

Cook,

Education- higher education

So why do you continue to look for a cooks's job, is cooking a passion? If so then you should be looking for opportunities to lead to being a "chef".

BTW can you cook, what is your speciality?

Here's a major reason you can't find work there.

http://www.bls.gov/web/laus/laumstrk.htm/

My wife is looking for work in Minnesota, we rank number 9th lowest unemployment rate. California has only two states with higher unemployment rates under it. Its one of the worst places in the country to look for work. As to her skills to do the job using the microscope, she was trained on site and she had no skills in that area. The office work she changed to, she had lots of computer skills, but its still relatively low skilled work which she was trained for on site. Her next step is getting something closer to her degree. She's done a little bit of applying and is surprised at the responses she's already getting. Much better than just a few months ago. I'm expecting the Minnesota unemployment rate is going to show a further drop soon.

Looking for work in California is like looking for water in the desert. There might be some, but its going to be damn hard to find and everyone else wants it to.

For a line cook I would want experience, dish/prep can be taught in a day.

Chef is very different, more a managerial position.

Do you have a hobby or anything that you do well, but doesn't it a skill? Do you have any leadership skills, can you do anything else on the computer except internet search and Facebook?

Are you religious or social activities i.e tree hugger

I don't even use Facebook) I have a page but I last time I was there like a month ago)

Because I have no one to talk with, I have no friends.

I am good in computer repair, software.

I would say I am advanced user. But I don't know much about programming like PHP or Web design.

But if your PC broke I can fix for sure.

Sometimes I look videos on youtube and try to do something myself like repair stuff etc.

I can do any work in the world just show me once, and I'll repeat it.

Religious - hm I am against all those organization where you have to be a member for a 10% of your income.

This no friend issue is a problem, good friends would tell yo where job openings are.

Is this a personality problem issue, do you interview well?

Skills, work well with hands , follow directions well, work independently, learn easy, computer skills,

Do you speak to people in public w/o them speaking to you first. A simple HELLO, do you walk arounf with a smile or are you just mad at the world.

Anything else you wish to share.

I agree with you. California unemployment very high.

But Los Angeles unemployment even higher, because they combine San Francisco 8% and Los Angeles 12% unemployment.

And they divide on 2 and getting 10% unemployment in the state.

It's not normal to look for a fast food or low paying job for a 3 month already.

Once I came to open interview in Marriott for a front desk position 9$. There was a line 40 people!!!

I am not joking! 40 people for 9$ job!

I just gave up and went to look for something else...

Trust me I always smile, being nice to the people.

I am not mad at the world!

Look! It goes like that...

I meet someone I said Hello, how are you etc...

Then I am saying something like... Do you want to have beer one day at the local bar, or do you want to have lunch etc.

They would say YEAH for sure!

I ask them a number, and text them later but they never respond me.

I call them they not answer!

I have no one to talk with about issue that I have that's why i am on this forum.

You might think I do something wrong, but no...I am a nice person! Back in my country I had friends to hang out with.

Maybe its California way of treatment. Maybe this state not for everybody.

Or maybe God punished me for something... I don't know...

Okay I bite the bullet, what country? You can just give me a direction, i.e south, east west etc.

Are the 'they" females or males?

So start with the basic, clean hygeine, dress neat, speak well, speak softly, and listern and observe. Start with one friend, this should lead to others. Meet in bars, gymn, park, rec sport, clubs, library, bus stop, resturant, starbuck, or any other coffee shop.

Do volunteer work.

Awe I'll be your friend! :) You seem like a nice guy. Have you no relatives in the States that can help, though? Don't despair, my friend. You have been given some great advice already. See if you can join some sort of group that has schedule meetings with similar interests such as yours. You're bound to meet people if you just go out there with the social mentality

But this is different story))), and I don't want to be that way.

Thank you again...

I understand, but its 1100 more than I have now.

But until when?

Tomorrow they gonna tell me we gonna pay you 4 dollars now because we want to.

So its going to be 550 more then I have now)))

They want you to lift up heavy boxes all day for 8$ an hour.

Its should be at least 16$.

And some of "good" employers willing to pay you only cash as independent contractor,

to avoid paying taxes. That's so wrong! Because they set-up schedule and they pay by hours.

But even those jobs are hard to find like they said before 80 applicants for 1 position.

I been here for 3 years and things not getting better.

Less and less jobs everyday.

Limited skills? What kind of skills you need to serve tables, or move furniture?

People do everything here just to survive, and employers taking advantage of those people

by paying them 8$.

Guys I am not trying to rude here or something like that.

I am sorry if I look like that, but I just don't understand whats happened with job market.

That would be illegal.

After reading what you've written here, I wouldn't hire you. You "should" get paid $16 for lifting boxes? Seriously? You don't believe in minimum wage jobs?

You have few skills and you're demanding better pay than most CNA's I know. Lots of people survive on minimum wage. They get subsidized housing, take the bus, and/or work two jobs.

No one owes you a job. You're not entitled to a job. The longer you're out of work, the less likely you are to find any. So if I were you, I'd take anything I could get, and once I had something, I'd try to find something better.

^^ This.

I know it's hard to believe, but you are not the only one struggling to find work. And unfortunately, a lot of places are going to give the job to someone with US job experience and references before they give it to someone without that. Is that fair? No - I agree it isn't, and it's affected my husband too. But this is the economy right now - it's been this way since 2008 and California has it worse than most states.

I think you've been given some good suggestions here from folks who have gone through the same things.

Religious - hm I am against all those organization where you have to be a member for a 10% of your income.

This confuses me. Are you referring to tithes (which to my knowledge are usually suggestions to parishioners, not requirements)?
