Thank you a lot! Unfortunately, I don't have camper van, but anyway like you said I'll give a shot!

Yeah, California...I can't believe they don't want to hire me even in a pizza places...

Iowa, Minnesota - maybe, who knows where I'll end up)

If you think the military is bad, there is no way you're going to make it for those oil-rig-jobs in ND. It's tough and brutal. That is why they're paying 70k to 100k year. The military is a really good option. You don't have to be a grunt. There are a lot of options such as mechanics, nurses, technical areas.....Suck it up for a few years then going back to the civilian life and you'd have a good skills set to put it to use.

I think its more not wanting to be in a war zone, which is a big danger with currently military sign ups. A good friend just lost a nephew in Afghanistan. He was two days in country, right out of ROTC, and his vehicle got hit by an IED. He actually volunteered to be on the mission. Such a shame we're loosing some of our best young men and women in wars. I sure hope that country gets stable soon and our men and women can come home.

I don't think military is bad at all! I would join military if they didn't have war in Afganistan.

If It would come to protection US territory as is, for example from Mexican or Canadian army)))

I would participate in this war. Because I would protect country which I live in.

But this is different story.

I'm in Minnesota, and I can honestly say if you want to work you can find a job here now. A year ago things started getting much better here as far as finding work. My wife had a job within a month of getting her EAD last winter. It was factory work, staring through a microscope, but she was happy to be working. Three weeks after that and she had an office making a touch more money. It's a temp job though, so she's mainly using it as a experience working in the USA, and has been doing it for three months now. Yesterday she was interviewed for a much better job, with real responsibilities. She'll be the billing clerk for a company, and directly hired permanent. The interview went really well, and knowing my wife she'll most likely get the job. The point being though, she's getting plenty of opportunities to apply for jobs and is now poised to go from low end work to higher paying work after just getting her EAD in February. Its not as good as it was before the economy went bad in the USA, but Minnesota is getting a lot closer to what it was before.

You can find low and no skill work in North Dakota right now. The big problem is housing. But if you stay on the eastern side of the state, there is lots of works and available housing. The pay just isn't what you hear about in the western oil boom part of the state. If I were a young man with nothing going for himself in California right now, I'd get my butt up to the oil boom part of the state and get a job. Yes I might be camping out in my car for the summer. But by fall you should be able to line up some type of housing arrangement and you'll be money ahead. If worse comes to worse, you can move on to another part of the country with money in your pocket before winter arrives.

Thank you! I started to think about moving on the east side. Otherwise I don't see American Dream come true...

I'm in California, recently hiring for a minimum wage job, and got over 80 applications. Some from people who had been making $25/hr at their last job. People are desperate. I'm getting people in here who haven't worked in years.

Are you submitting a resume or filling out an application? I would recommend doing both. Walk in, fill out the application completely (get help from someone who can write English VERY well, if you need it) and include your resume, if it's well done.

Keep in mind that places are getting swamped with applications, and they are looking for any reason to weed out people and narrow it down. You aren't making it to the interview stage, so that tells me that something about your application is causing you to be tossed in the "no" pile. What are you saying is your reason for leaving your last job?

So? Do you think its normal?

I don't think so. Work for 8$ an hour just to keep pay your bills?

That is not even enough for pay bills, car maintenance, food.

Employers taking advantage of employees right now because they know that they have no where to go.

I used a calculator its 1100 after tax.

My monthly expenses incl. rent, food, gas cloth only goes around 1200 - 1400.

Work for 8$ for what?

If you can clear $1100 after tax, it will be $ 1,100 more than you have now. And then you strive to get a second job to make up for the difference. Until then you cut back on your expenses, and shop wisely for food. This is not new at all and many have been doing it at one time or another in their lives. Yes, it sucks but these are the cards you were dealt and all you have to play with at the moment. If you want things to get better you need to start somewhere and somehow. Also remember it is easier to get a job when you have a job...

It's $1,100.00 more than you have today. With your limit skill set, being choosen shouldn't be your 1st option. What doesn't kill you may end helping you.

I understand, but its 1100 more than I have now.

But until when?

Tomorrow they gonna tell me we gonna pay you 4 dollars now because we want to.

So its going to be 550 more then I have now)))

They want you to lift up heavy boxes all day for 8$ an hour.

Its should be at least 16$.

And some of "good" employers willing to pay you only cash as independent contractor,

to avoid paying taxes. That's so wrong! Because they set-up schedule and they pay by hours.

But even those jobs are hard to find like they said before 80 applicants for 1 position.

I been here for 3 years and things not getting better.

Less and less jobs everyday.

Limited skills? What kind of skills you need to serve tables, or move furniture?

People do everything here just to survive, and employers taking advantage of those people

by paying them 8$.

Guys I am not trying to rude here or something like that.

I am sorry if I look like that, but I just don't understand whats happened with job market.

Then list me 5 skills you have that should qualify you to be paid more than $8.00 per hours. Also, what is the mimimun wage for jobs in your home country. Not trying to be rude, we now are going to work with FACTS.

Then what do you want to do about what is in the quote, not once had I heard you talk about going back to school to get a higher education. Do you have what is equal to a high school diploma?

I am not gonna talk about skills. I am gonna talk about jobs which possible to get without experience.

1) I was a cook 14$ an hour + health benefits

2) Servers were making around 50K - 60K a year

3) Bartenders around 100 K

4) Movers make good money on tips

5) Truck drivers

6) Casino employees

etc, etc, etc

I have high school diploma from my country

Bachelor Law degree which unfortunately I can't use here,

and in my home country as well if you don't have connections

And you know what most interesting?

I finished university with good grades, but I don't know a ####)))

Minimum wage in my country I would say 300$ a month but rent cost around 80$ for 2 bedroom.

I am not comparing minimum wages. I am OK with 8$ if rent gonna be lower.

In California 8$ its impossible and like I already said VERY hard to get even those jobs.

You have a Bachelor Law degree, in what field of intrest? So you were working at a 5 star resturant, those numbers you quote above doesn't agree with a cook making 14.00 per hour. Was your only skill a cook?

You have shown good writting skilss and communication skills. So your speaking skills should be good aswell.

It wasn't 5 star restaurant) Its was just busy spot.

My diploma says Bachelor degree in jurisprudence.

But all those diplomas whatever right now.

See like Caryh wrote that his wife got a job in factory with microscope. Then she got job at the office.

I don't think so she had microscope experience or related.

Company which need people, willing to train them. Because 80% of jobs require only on-site training.

But whats going on right now crazy!

I am on Craigslist every day.

Dishwasher with 5 years experience, references required!!!

Are you F@king kidding me?

They need a dude which 5 years washed dishes, but if you have only 4 years NO NO NO!!!

You don't qualify, you will not handle it!!!

C's wife may have had someother skill that assisted her with the micro job. What skills are you bringing to the table, I have listed 2 for you.

Communication skills

Cook,

Education- higher education

So why do you continue to look for a cooks's job, is cooking a passion? If so then you should be looking for opportunities to lead to being a "chef".

BTW can you cook, what is your speciality?

I am not looking for a cook position. I am looking for any position cook, waiter, bartender, general labor.

To be a chef you have to go in culinary school for 2 years and after graduation its very less chances that you will become one.

I worked with famous chefs in LA they all work 10-12 hours a day and making 50K a year, exactly the same what cooks make,

the only thing the don't cook much, they like supervisors.

If you want to be at school for 2 years better be a nurse.

School its not option for me now unfortunately...

I can do any job, I am very fast learner. But its all abut connections, which I don't have.

People don't pay attention at my personality, even I try to be nice, they seem like don't care.

Yeah Thank you for you skill list. I never paid attention at those skills)))

Do you have a hobby or anything that you do well, but doesn't it a skill? Do you have any leadership skills, can you do anything else on the computer except internet search and Facebook?

Are you religious or social activities i.e tree hugger
