Hello All.

I traveled to the Philippines in February to meet a wonderful girl I met online. We had a blast.

Now she wants to come visit me in the USA with a tourist visa but she just lost her job. Can she still apply even without a job? Does unemployment = automatic rejection?

Many thanks for any advice.

She can apply, whether she gets a visa, well she certainly will not is she does not try.

She can apply, but unless she has amazing other ties to her country, a young, single female from the Philippines without a job is very unlikely to get a tourist visa to visit her boyfriend.

I hate to say it but start packing your bags and go back for another visit they will not grant her a visa, plus the $260.00 for the visa you will lose or you can sponser her with a shot but it's your money. Good Luck plus what is she going to tell the vo ?

Automatic rejection? No.

Likely rejection? Yes.

The officer interviewing her will want to be convinced that 1. She intends to return to the Philippines on time, and 2. She will not work illegally.

According to US immigration law, anyone applying for a visa is to be considered an intenting immigrant, unless proven otherwise. This will be very difficult to prove for a Filipino citizen with no job.

She has an interview today with a bank. Crossing my fingers.

This leads me to another question.

How long should she be employed before applying for the visa?

How long does one normally have to be on the job before taking a six month vacation? Or, how much time on the job must one have so that possession of the job has some importance? No exact answer, but I doubt that three weeks behind the desk will be sufficient.
