When Occupy Wall Street began their protest of the corporate manipulations and their unfair political influences, causing such economic hardships for many, their target was aptly named the one percent. The one percent controls an insane amount of money in relation to the 99% and pretty much have the last word in legislation. Their control of “mainstream” media assures influences upon every aspect of our society and reality.

But as is the case with many movements, the reality of what change has been demanded and why gets lost in the catch phrases, in the camaraderie of knowing that something is wrong but not understood. While bonding through a cause is important for people, it is also important to understand the root of the problem and to start

vetting the details of how the system has become so one-sided in favor of the elite. The one percent has become synonymous with Wall Street and banks. But both entities are staffed by many people within the ninety-nine percent. This is the tricky part of defining where the system is corrupted to such an extent that innocent are the targeted losers in this power game. We need education and awareness of where the system’s strings are being pulled rather than reaction to the strings.

The one percent are not just a meme. They are flesh and blood people who are at the top, who stand to profit the most and who invariably have the most input on how to further develop our society as we head into an unprecedented technological surge. They control political seats with corporate money, now given the sanctity of free speech. They pay millions for lobbyists and political campaigns to create legislation to further their ends without detailing why. Their huge foothold in our media and entertainment industries further propagate information that has nothing to do with cultivating an informed, educated and proactive participation in our governing bodies. They perpetuate social issues that serve nothing beyond pitting the beliefs of its ’red and blue populations against each other, highlighting egocentrist attitudes to create a modern-day Tower of Babel – preventing any common cooperation that could result in any reasonable threat to their profit driven goals.

Bohemian Grove in the Sonoma County redwoods each year hosts a good portion of the one percent for their mid-summer vacation and manly retreat. Presidents, heads of state, cabinet members and kitchen cabinet members, military leaders, lawmakers, financiers, entertainment artists, old money and new, here, in secret. The world’s elite ruling class gets to let their hair down and discuss art, science, world affairs, build community and maybe learn how they may mutually assist each other in their respective endeavors.

The Occupy movement very rightly has targeted the system in which these men have operated without media exposure. It is time we brought the movement to the doorstep of where the one percent go to play and let them know: no more secrets; no more excuses; no more greed. Join Occupy Bohemian Grove beginning July 14, 2012, at Noon and take a look behind the curtain.

There hasn't been a good protest at the Grove in decades. I am sure they will get a warm reception, and a free bus ride to Santa Rosa. If they thought Oakland PD and some campus cops were a little rough on them, wait until they meet the private security and Secret Service details that accompanies some of the attendees. The deputies around here are a bunch of pussies, but they have plenty of manpower, lots of riot equipment, and a fairly new modern jail.
