I recently submitted an I-130 for my spouse and received the I-797C receipt. From what I've read, we could submit an I-129F for a K-3 visa.

According to the comparison on this site (http://www.visajourney.com/content/compare) the minuses of an IR-1:

Separation from family may be longer than if filing for a K-3 Visa (or K-1 visa for a non-married fiance). The applicant will most likely not be able to enter the US while their IR1-CR-1 Visa is being processed.

and the pluses of a K3 are:

Generally allows applicant to enter the US faster then waiting for the I-130 to be approved and the IR-1 / CR-1 visa to be issued.

SInce you must complete the I-130 first, and if you have done that you don't pay an extra fee for the I-129F, is there any harm in trying for the K3?

I have also read on the forums that the K3 is obsolete because the IR-1 is faster. So is there any point to submitting an I-129F for a K3?

Any insights will be appreciated!

It will slow your case down, and the I-129F will be closed at NVC stage, leaving you on the path you are already on. Do not file I-129F. There is no point, as you understand.
