I'm trying to cover all my bases here. On the DS-230 it wants all place you lived for more than 6 months. My fiancee spent around 6 months in China a few years ago. The Embassy website says it needs police certs from any place abroad lived for more than 12 months. Is this really true? I know sometimes the website isn't exactly up to date. I just want to make sure we don't need to get a police cert from China because I know that is a real pain and can take a long time.

Embassy website says you need on from every city you lived in for 6 months or longer with the Russian Federation. And 12 month or more from time abroad.

Does anyone with experience at the Moscow Embassy know if their website is up to date on this?

It's never changed; those have been the requirements for some time.

Excellent, thank you. I just had nightmares of her being in Moscow and them telling her she needs a cert from China. That would not be good!

The only way they'd know is if she listed that address on her 325.

They can't track that from her passport number? She has a new passport so her Chinese visa is long gone.

You mean, does the US embassy have access to Chinese entry visas?

I guess I thought the Embassy would have access to her Russian passport and could possibly see where she's been and where. But that doesn't make a lot of sense now that I think about it.

We didn't put that on her 325 because she never considered herself to have an actual residence in China. She was there visiting friends after she finished school, she stayed for as long as her visa was good for and she returned back home to Russia.

They can physically check the passport for visas but it's not like they put her number into the computer and they know where she's been and when.

Well, they probably can, (NSA, CIA, etc.) but I don't think they do so for "normal" visa BGCs.
