At VFS in mumbai do you submit all documents or do they ask you one by one. Also how is the place like meaning is it kind of like a passport office type office with multiple counters and a waiting area inside or? I appreciate your responses.

Just confirmed with VFS that no appointment is required at VFS Mumbai.

Yes, VFS mumbai is in a basement, a one room wonder with multiple windows :) Pretty efficient system where you are granted a token on entry and the security guy inside guides you to a particular window. Fully air conditioned and plenty of seats to sit on. However be warned, they ape the consulate in as much as you cannot carry cosmetics or water inside and though you can have your phone on you it needs to be switched off.

Did you go in alone or did you have someone to accompany you? Is anyone else besides applicant allowed?

I had to go in alone as only applicants are allowed inside. My mom came with me but thankfully the location is such that there is plenty to distract one- Shops, cafes and the like. so she wasn't bored and didn't have to just stand around outside either.

Thank you so much for letting us know. Can you let me know one last thing. At the counter were you asked to submit documents one by one or did you hand them everything you had submitted to NVC once again?

well, they see your interview appointment letter first, then look at your passports. So have those handy. Then, hand over what the person asks for one by one. Usually it is in this order-

Photocopy of appointment letter and passport biographic pages,DS forms, birth certificates & affidavits, the marriage certificate, the pcc and medical. Then you pay 399 and collect the receipt for docs handed in and the money paid. And yes, most of these forms were already submitted but they require a fresh set plus a photocopy.

So im guessing they did not want to see the I-864 right? Good luck on your interview tomorrow. Do let us know if your mom had a place to wait there while you were in the interview. Good luck !!

Yup I asked her to take the 864 off me as I didn't want to carry it to the consulate. But she just smiled benignly at me and refused.

Your originals were all submitted to NVC right? You pretty much had photocopies + another set to submit to VFS?

Well we filed in Delhi as my husband was here on temp assignment, but in Delhi they returned the originals to us and kept a copy. So, I have the originals with me.

Take a photocopy with you if you have already submitted certain originals. But the D230 forms have to be freshly printed and filled in again.
