DS-230 Questions 35 and 32

Hello all,

My wife resided in the USA for several years with an F-1 visa, and then 2 years with a CR-1 Visa. After that we moved to Japan and we are now applying for another visa to return to the US. She has had some trouble answering a few questions on the DS-230 form.

Question 35 asks her to list previous visits to or residence in the United States. During the years she lived in the US she made regular visits back to Japan to see her family. Should we list the dates she returned to the US from these visits? Of course each of these visits is reflected with stamps in her passport and I am just worried about any confusion that may occur.

Question 32/employment history - Should she leave no gaps in a ten year time frame and include all of the dates she was unemployed or just list each job and not worry about listing dates of unemployment?

Thanks for all the help!

my suggestion is to list all her entries to the US as they requested

if space is not enough you can attach a continuation sheet for that item.

good luck

Thanks for the input Romeo&Analet! Although it helped, I still feel very uncertain about the question.

I started to rework the dates going by the POE dates. If we separate the dates by entry dates it just feels like it is not an accurate representation of her residence. It makes it look more like long term visits instead of depicting that she was living in the US. For example it would look like this...

09/2007 - 11/2008 CR-1

12/2006 - 08/2007 F-1

12/2005 - 11/2006 F-1

I had it like this before with just one break to show the change in visa status.

09/2007 - 11/2008 CR-1

12/2005 - 09/2007 F-1

This is just an example, in reality we counted 6 visits in 8 years. The question asks for "Visits to or residence in the United States" I am hoping that someone who has gone through this process and had a similar situation could advice us on how they handled it. I would greatly appreciate it!
