Hi,

Im currently in the space between getting the NOA1 and NOA2 and I was wondering if I should get my police certificate here in the UK. Its possible that the certificate will show I have a caution from when I was 15 back in 1995 so I'd like to get as prepared as I can as soon as I can.

Cheers

Dean

Hi Dean, yeah - it's a good idea. Exactly what I and few other people did. The ACPO certificate is valid for a year.

Hi Dean,

Yes, absolutely do it. I ordered my police certificate in Canada as soon as I filed the I129F, and it took a couple of weeks for them to get it sorted out. It looked great at first blush, but my daughter (who picked it up for me) pointed out that it had my birthdate wrong. Suddenly I was 23 years younger. I called them and had to go through a whole 'nother two weeks waiting for the corrected certificate. So you never know what can go wrong. Be prepared.

Also, don't worry about a caution. As long as you are open and honest about everything, you'll be fine.

Good luck.

Shannon

Definitely do it. I sent off for mine earlier in the week, 4 weeks after NOA1. Just allowing plenty of time for any mishaps! I would have done it sooner if i could find somebody to sign the photo!

A caution age 15 usually disappears from your record anyway from what ive heard, so i wouldnt worry. As long as youre honest about it, it should be fine.

Thanks for the replies everybody. Providing that the caution does not show up do I mention it on the DS-230 form or not? I don't want to trigger an RFE with me saying I have some criminal record when my police certificate shows I don't?

Thanks again

Dean
