I have a question. My Malaysia passport will expire next year December. I know it is still a year away but passport is unavailable to travel 6months ahead from expiry date. When I decide to renew my passport at Malaysia Chicago Embassy in the near future, but my AoS is stamped on my old passport, what should I do? Usually when after renewed passport, the officer will destroy the old passport. One of my friend told me that, if I inform the officer I have important stamp/visa, they will just cut out the page from the old passport and give it to me.

I wasn't sure about it, and wondering any of you experience the same situation? and will they denied my renew if found I have I-551 stamp?

Thanks,

Moving to regional forums from AOS forums as it is a problem with passport renewal not AOS.

Most country's do not destroy old passports but stamp them canceled or punch holes in them to show they are canceled and return them to you. some country's even replace the previous visa or stamp into your new passport. You need to find out and not listen to hear say because a lot of times people just want to scare you or make you upset so they tell you the wrong things.

You can make a photo copy of it before you send it away for renewal as well. Keep the photocopy for your records.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

Do you have the actual GC or just the stamp? If you have the actual GC then the stamp is no longer needed so do not worry about it. If you have just the stamp, make a photo copy of the entire passport and when you get the new passport, make an INFOpass appointment to get another stamp in the new passport or see if you can keep the old passport or that page when you renew.

Several options.

Good luck,

Dave
