How to get to Ciudad Juarez?

Hi all -

Does anyone have any suggestions about the safest way to get to CJC? Our petition has arrived there and I hoping we will get packet 3 soon... Searching plane tickets, I know I can go from Boston to TX to Monterrey or Guadalajara and on to CJ...However, this is an all day process. I also see that I could fly to El Paso and take some type of transportation to cross the border...this seems easier and cheaper if I could be sure that it is safe. Anyone have any suggestions for a safe car or limo service and if so, what is the process at the border? How about the return trip? How long does the border stop take? Also, I remember that someone posted about a hotel in front of the consulate...anyone remember the name? I've heard that I won't be allowed in to the interview with my honey...is this true? Also, we haven't gotten a real ring yet...it seems that we could spend the money on something else right now...how important is this? I will have made a deposit on the function hall/restaurant for our wedding and can show this at the interview..

thanks!

Jessraul,

Try searching on the embassy reviews, I believe Junari posted a great review of the consulate, with many many details of their trip to CDJ. I believe you will not be allowed into the interview and also the ring issue I don't think it's a big deal, so don't worry. Look around at the reviews of Ciudad Juarez for the k1 visa, they are very hellpful!

Fly to El Paso. It is a safe city. CJ is hust across the river. You could walk it from downtown. No rental cars allowed to go to Mexico.. They will take it away from you at the border. Take a taxi to the border or walk. Take you 30 minutes to cross as a pedestrian coming back to the US. Buses and taxis waiting at the border.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

I agree with DesertFox - fly to El Paso and take a taxi over the border. There are several hotels around the consulate. The one you are thinking of is probably the Holiday Inn Lincoln. I've read both good and bad reviews. I really wouldn't bother flying there - no fiances or spouses are allowed into the interview. You'll end up spending the entire day standing outside the consulate. The ring does not matter and it is definitely NOT recommended to put a deposit on anything or plan a wedding until the visa is in hand. You just never know what can happen at the interview. For example, there is a couple here stuck in "security checks" at CDJ because his fingerprints came up with a false hit. They have already been waiting for several months. You'd hate to have something like that happen and lose your money.

Thanks everyone-

I don't think I'm going to walk across..especially with my luggage. Can I get a safe taxi from the airport in El Paso or does anyone have the name of a reliable car service? CJ terrifies me and the recording at the consulate now says to be extra careful. Even if I can't be in the interview, I want to be there for my honey for support and just in case they have any questions for me. Besides that, I haven't seen him in two months...it will probably be three months by the time we are able to go for an interview. The consulate tells me that we can go any time after we get the packet..they also sent that they were sending the packet to me...anyone else have this experience?

Hi,

I think it's great that you want to be there for him, I'll definitely want my fiance close to me for moral support, and to celebrate once we have the visa :)

You usually can get a taxi right at the airport in the texas side that would take you across the border- I live in a border town and the airport at the texas town across the border has this kind of service. It is not as cheap but this way you would not have to walk across with your bags to get a taxi in the Juarez side to take you to your hotel.

Also, you CAN rent a car and bring it into Mexico as long as you have a valid US drivers license, my fiance does it here all the time- it is us mexicans that cannot drive a car across the border with a US license plate, but you need additional insurance to cover your stay in the mexican side. You'd need an additional permit if you wanted to take the car outside the mexican border area, but if you stay in Juarez you'd be OK.

I would try to schedule a flight that gets into El Paso during daylight just so you feel safer when you get across :)

From what I've read here in VJ, you should get a packet in the US as well, actually I read that many of the mexican fiances never got theirs.

Hope this helps :)

Saludos y suerte!

Hi!

My fiance and I went to CDJ, he went to El Paso airport and took a taxi straight to the hotel. They can do that. Also the way back, the taxi can take you from the hotel directly to El paso Airport. Taxis are expensive in CDJ.

We stayed at Lucerna Hotel, it is near to the embassy, just a few blocks walking. Next to the Lucerna hotel is a Banamex where you are going to make the deposit for interview. This Lucerna Hotel is very nice and excelent service.

You can check our posts here:

http://www.visajourney.com/reviews/index.p...xico&page=1

This is very nice from you to support your fiance by being there with him. You can not go into the embassy

for the interview but in front of the embassy there is an small place where you can stay, there are many people over there waiting for their families also.

Good Luck on your fiance interview!

De nada :)

We are still waiting for our NOA2, so we haven't been to Juarez yet, but I live in a border town and have an idea of how things work in the Mexico-US border area ;)

Good luck in your interview, and please please don't forget to let us know how it goes, we'd love to know more details on what to expect when we finally get there

Does anybody know how to get to the general area of the Juarez consulate from the Juarez airport using PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION? My fiance and I are flying in to Juarez from Toluca next Tuesday and are very limited on funds and can't afford to pay un chingo on taxi rides.

Also has anybody stayed in a slightly more modest hotel in CDJ? I'd rather not pay $60 a night but of course don't want to stay in a questionable place either.

chimi, I can't help you on public transporation but you may be able to find something online.

I do know that there are plenty of places to stay - someone who was just there told me there are many cheaper places that the Holiday Inn Lincoln to stay, Casas de Huespedes all up and down Av. Lopez Mateos, slightly north of the consulate. $20 for 1 or 2 people - not glamorous but adequate.

BTW, we're over here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...7896&st=120

I flew into El Paso and took a taxi to the Holiday Inn (there are two next to the consulate) in Juarez. It cost 50$ for the ride and the driver almost killed us on the way there. The ride was relatively quick. The driver made a good profit.. so dont bother tipping him. When I do it again I will fly into Juarez, I think. My wife will be there too so it will be more convenient.
