I have a conditional green card. I've only had it for a couple of months.

My husband and I are going on a trip this summer to Mexico and I am just wondering if I am allowed to travel with a conditional green card.

Also, do I need to get a US passport or should i use my Philippine passport?

Thank you

You can travel with a conditional green card. You will use that to get back in the US.. You will have to use your philippine passport to travel out of the country though. Check the country to see if you need a visa. You can't get a US passport until you naturalize.(and then you won't have a green card)

A visa is required. Check with the Mexican consulate as to what you need to get one.

This link will show which countries require a visa.

I did a little additonal review on this,,, don't like to give out mis-information.

"Starting May 1st, 2010, all foreigners, regardless of their nationality, visiting Mexico as tourists,

transmigrate or for business matters will not need a visa for Mexico as long as they hold a valid US

visa and arrive in Mexico from the United States."

Please contact a Mexican consulate to validate this information.

You do not need a visa to visit Mexico.

Here is what I suggest taking with you:

> Your Philippines passport (which has at least three months validity remaining).

> Your conditional green card.

> Your marriage certificate (if the name on your passport is different than the one on your conditional green card).

> Your birth certificate.

Have a nice time in Mexico. :star:

As others have stated, you can travel because the conditional GC is still a GC it is just valid for only 2 years instead of 10 but it is the same document. For international travel you will use your passport and must follow all the rules for visas for your home country as far as obtaining a visa unless there are special rules for US GC holders--i.e. like Mexico. The name on the ticket must match the name in the passport. The GC only gets you back into the US and it may help in obtaining the required visas as the foreign country may see someone with ties to the US as someone likely to leave and thus will grant them a tourist visa. Should the name on the GC not match the name in the passport, it is recommended to take the marriage certificate to show why they do not match.

Always check the intended country's website for visa requirements for a PI citizen and US GC holder before making travel arrangements and obtain those documents first--you do not want an airline ticket worth several hundreds of dollars and not be able to use it because you cannot get the tourist visa.

Good luck and enjoy your trip.
