Frustrated with NVC

Okay so I have been really patient with this entire process (which we started October 22, 2010 - yes that long ago!). But I am starting to get very frustrated with the NVC. I submitted all of my documents to them on May 17th that they requested. On May 31 they sent an email requesting that my husband complete a new Affidavit of Support (as he omitted the .56 cents on his 2011 income - a small mistake but a mistake nevertheless). He resubmitted that on June 6th. Tonight I called the NVC to see if our case was complete. NO!! Apparently our marriage certificate isn't sufficient! It's the only one I have. So now I have to contact the Land Registry office in Toronto and request a long copy of my marriage certificate. You would think that they would have included that in the email they sent us regarding the Affidavit of Support. Anyway, just venting and I know there's not much I can do except wait for the new marriage certificate then wait for them to review it!! Hopefully that'll be it. I'm beginning to think I'll never be able to move... lol. We'll be celebrating our 2nd wedding anniversary this July and we will still be living apart. Anyway, like I said, just getting this off my chest. Hope everyone else had/has better luck!

On the plus side, you'll get the unconditional 10 year green card if you enter after your 2 year anniversary and won't have to go through removing conditions! Not the greatest comfort, I know, but it's something good about the spot you are in now.

Just curious, what did they say was wrong with your marriage certificate? I only sent a copy with my I-130 and you're making me nervous....

Our marriage certificate was issued by our local municipality with our names, date of marriage, our signatures and the signatures of our witnesses, name of officiating minister (priest) and a licence number. I guess the certificate I need is the one from the Land Registry office - which I requested online at Service Ontario tonight. I paid extra for the 5-day service otherwise it would take 6-8 weeks.

Bummer...was this an RFE that delayed your application? I'm really nervous now.

RFE always delays the application. There is no work done at all on the case until they get the RFE response.

Spousal petitions your supposed to send originals not copys. The OP did not send the registered marriage license. Which means it did not have the seal stamp / signature of registry.

I know some say original, we sent an certified/registered good color copy on our K1 AOS. My theory with government is always order more copies than you think you need, that way if you send an original no biggie, but not cheaper. see the guides also" ;

Forms that may be either sent back (or requested to be gathered and kept for the interview) to the NVC or the consulate abroad (depending upon which consulate you are going through) before an interview date with a consulate abroad can be scheduled are as follows:

Pre-Interview Forms / Items: 1. Completed and signed OF-169. 2. Completed and signed Of-230 Part 1 and 2 forms. 3. I-864 Affidavit of Support Form along with past 3 year U.S tax returns (or transcripts) and any other financial documents required. 4. A copy of intending immigrants biographic page of passport(s) including expiration date. 5. Original or certified "long" birth certificate. * 6. Original adoption decree. (if applicable) 7. Marriage certificate. (if applicable) 8. Divorce decree(s) or death certificate(s) (if applicable) 9. Police certificate(s) ** 10. Court and prison records.(if applicable) 11. Custody records. (if applicable) 12. Military records (if applicable)

In Arizona its hot hot hot.

Just an FYI - I did send the original marriage certificate with original signatures on it. NVC now wants the 'long copy' of my marriage certificate. To be honest, I really have no recollection of any other marriage certificate that I signed on the day of our marriage. Hopefully they do have it at Land Registry in Canada - but who knows. Guess I'll find out soon.

the thing you sign at the wedding is not what the NVC wants.. they want the certificate you are supposed to get in the mail a few weeks after your wedding.. it looks something like this.. although other province's certificates might look a little different..

I agree, I think what you may have submitted, if married in Toronto, was the solemnization of marriage, which is NOT what they need.

From http://www.ontario.ca/en/life_events/married/STEL02_119192.html

Immediately after the marriage ceremony, the couple may receive a Record of Solemnization of Marriage from the person who performed the ceremony.

This document includes the couple's names, the date of the marriage, the names of the witnesses and whether the marriage was performed under the authority of a licence or the publication of banns. This is not a marriage certificate or a legal record.

Also in the link above you can see how to obtain one

Good luck

if'n you study the DS-230 section, you'll see instructions about what original, civil documents to submit.

An original marriage certificate (or certified copy, certified by the issuing authority) is required.

For the I-130, only a photocopy is needed.

Have a read, when you have time?

DS-230 - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3190.html

I know some say original, we sent an certified/registered good color copy on our K1 AOS.

Which has nothing to do with NVC Document Intake. Sorry.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

FYI - I never said you didn't send an original. I was responding to the person who was freaking out saying they had only sent a copy of theirs.
