He really can't win with some people.

The video doesn't make him sound superior at all. He sounds irritated, rightfully so. Heckle the President and the President is still the "jack*ss" ... cute.

You're right, watching the vid is different to in print. I stated that above. But stop making it about him being special. Just because someone is a janitor doesn't mean they should be interrupted by the President. Obviously an example but someone is no better than anyone else, esp when someone won a popularity contest to be "better" than everyone else. No-one deserves to be interrupted and interrupting someone is rude.

I made the comment before you had commented on the video, to be fair.

I never said that a janitor deserves less respect than the President. I also never claimed the President is better than anyone. Nobody deserves that level of disrespect. The fact that people are DEFENDING him actually blows my mind a bit.

Unless it can be shown by this jerk reporter or his employers that his behavior here was in keeping with his usual manner of covering politicians's speaking events, it is otherwise quite apparent that this was an attempt to verbally bully. It could be that the implicit message was that 'I am white and your superior so I can interrupt you and keep you from speaking if I want, because you are my inferior, as you are black'! Of course, such a bullying form of verbal badgering might be motivated by other than racial prejudice. If so, I would be interested to know what that was.

His entire organisation actually patted him on the back for this.

Firstly that Obama is a shocking public speaker all the "uh uh uh's" was really bad :S

Obama is an excellent public speaker. Is this really the first time you heard him speak? The heckler was speaking during the very brief video clip (though you can't hear him) so it is very reasonable to lose one's train of thought and say "uh." It is not usual for him.

Here is the full speech

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

No I've heard him a couple of times. He's great at REHEARSED speeches but "on the fly" he apparently sucks, given the small (but still rude) interruption caused such a fluster and thus the "uh uh uh's" (and the MULTIPLE "uh's" is bad, not a single ah, um, uh or whatever which is common). A great public speaker is great with rehearsed, on the fly, dealing with hecklers and any other situation. Obama's only good at rehearsed so it seems from the clip.

Um okay... if someone started shouting at me in the middle of my sentence I might be flustered. Especially if I continually was trying to start my sentence and some bozo kept going on and on. I am glad you would be so poised.

The heckling starts at around 5 mins, so I suspect you didn't watch the whole speech and see his demeanor change dramatically, briefly (since you replied 2 mins after).

No I watched it earlier. I stand by my assessment. I'm not saying I WOULD be poised, but as someone who is touted to be so good (and seriously I hear your kind of comments all the time about how "fabulous" he is) I was shocked at how awful and unprofessional he sounded.

I think that was the objective of the heckling. Too bad that folks like you see this as a negative for Obama rather than placing the responsibility where it should be on the reporter and his supporting organization!

I am rational about it. It shows he's an awful speaker, but yes, the heckler is a bad person and extremely rude. I never once supported the heckler in doing what he did. It's rude and immature. But it doesn't change the fact I was shocked at Obama's awful public speaking. Just because of my negative view of Obama's speaking doesn't mean I'm pro the heckler.

Since you are so good at knowing what goes into good public speaking maybe you will make your services available for team Obama and other aspiring politicians who want to hone their skills?

On the other hand, I am glad to hear you indirectly affirming that it was Obama's ideas and policies that got him elected president, not just, as some on the right like to say, that he was such a gifted speaker!

Odd that they would do that, because it's clear to me from this evidence who the real jack*** is and I think anyone who's actually seen the video would have to agree. Unfortunately, I don't think most people (yourself excluded) actually check out anything before they start in passing judgements based on their own preconceptions.

Anymore intelligent and informative post in P&R? I bet if we went through all your post in this forum we would find a load of them to where you added something intelligent and informative to a thread.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I think the teleprompter had to be recycled, so he was momentarily at a loss for words.
