I have to second Harpa's question. When in an election year should the President just stop doing anything because everything he does will be pandering for votes? Is there a time limit? 6 months? A year?

it shouldn't. but, these 'evolutionary' changes in his policies keep back firing. i see this doing the same.

I don't think it is a matter of stopping during an election year, it looks to me like he is starting now that it is an election year!

African American unemployment could be 60% and Obama would still get 90+% of the black vote.

Perhaps, but its also in line with the Republican proposal. IE he cut them off at the pass. Since they vote against him on everything, they will probably kill there own proposal.

it depends how this plays in the next few weeks/months. if it goes well 'he stole rubio's plan'. if it plays badly 'he is trying to turn us into a third world country & backdooring amnesty'.

In this situation, the way to shut the door IMO is to make entering a country illegally with a minor a criminal act on par with child endangerment. (along with employer enforcement..)

They'll vote for him as well. Add those 2 groups up, as well as his new hispanic friends, he still wont make 50%. Most of the hispanics I have met that are here legally are against some thing like this.
