So we should punish the people who were brought here illegaly as children? They didn't have a choice.

Sometimes you have to punish someone else for another's actions to prove a point.

We do this each and every day. We send kids into the foster care system when their parents are sent to jail all the time, or we take kids away when we 'deem' a situation fo the child isn't the 'best' for them according to a random person... It's no different. The kids are living a life that they have no desire to live, that isn't of their own doing, etc..

Parents bring their children across the border because they KNOW they can get by with it already. This will make it even worse.

This just makes my blood boil. It makes a mockery of the entire system.

Honestly, we're all stupid. We did things the legal way. We should have just walked in like everyone else is doing.

:bonk:

Not exactly. Any eligible person still has to go through the process of immigration, AOS, etc.

These people are still going to go through an immigration process. They're simply not being deported for actions they had nothing to do with.

People are people. They are not objects for others to use to "prove a point" ...

Apples and oranges. To make your point we should incarcerate kids whose parents committed a crime. That would be on a par of punishing kids for theirs parents keeping them illegally in the US.

I wouldn't exactly say they are "innocent". They may not have known what was going on, but they still broke the law regardless.

I feel for people in this situation but I would never support any action that allows any person to break the law (whether they had a choice or not) and then be allowed to get away with it.

Leave? And go where? And with what money?

Back to the country they have no recollection of living in? Who will support them? Where will they go? What will they do? They may not even speak the language. And with what money should they travel "home" with?

If someone came up to you at the age of 21 and said "Sorry, you were not born in this country you've lived in all your life. You have to go to a foreign country and start your life over. Sorry if you don't know anyone or know the language. You'll figure it out" ... that would be fair to you?

If they don't have any documentation that says they can be here then they are breaking the law.

It may not have been their choice or their fault, but that doesn't change the fact that they are breaking the law just by being here.

It is what it is.

Some of these have served in our military and put their lives on the line to defend our freedom. I for one would be happy to call them Americans. They deserve it.

It is what it is.

So you think they should punished as if it were their fault/choice?

I love how people think they should just be "sent home" ... as if that would be easy. But hey, people rarely care about what happens to others if it doesn't directly impact them.

It is what it is.

The purpose of this legislation is precisely to provide them with the necessary documents so they will not be breaking any laws any longer.
