I honestly can't believe how one member of this website would support something like this. We all went through hell to get our SOs here the legal way, and these lawbreakers are getting a break. Not sending a very good message to people immigrating the legal way IMHO.

Why? The folks here doing it the "legal" way get a path to citizenship, while these "law breaker" folks don't. And, many of those folks doing it the "legal" way are just gaming the system. Perhaps someone should develop a purity test, before more folks start getting too sanctimonious.

Under the administration plan, illegal immigrants will be immune from deportation if they were brought to the US before age 16 and are younger than 30, have been in the country for at least five continuous years, have no criminal history, graduated from a US high school or earned a GED, or served in the military. They also can apply for a work permit that will be good for two years with no limits on how many times it can be renewed.

The children aren't the lawbreakers. Their parents are. And these people are not getting a free ride. They are simply getting the opportunity to go through the immigration process and work and be productive members of society. How horrible.

And the caveat is that they must already be on that path as well.

Think of it like this, sure they may have taken resources when younger. Do we want them to walk away with their assets or pay them back?

According to this new rule, there is no immigration process. It's just an endless succession of 2 year EADs. I'll take bets on how this morphs into permanent residency and later citizenship. Horrible or not, their parents broke the law. If they have a beef with someone, let them take it up with their parents.

So you think they should punished as if it were their fault/choice?

I love how people think they should just be "sent home" ... as if that would be easy. But hey, people rarely care about what happens to others if it doesn't directly impact them.

You hit that nail directly on the head. I guess we'd ALL be in a big pickle if the American Indians somehow came to power over all of us IMMIGRANTS and demanded our papers or LEAVE eh? B-)

Ignorant much?

You do realize that calling 4th and 5th generation people "immigrants" is a bit dumb.

Sure, the land was taken by ancestors as was done for a long time.

HOWEVER, this is a sovereign nation now with laws and borders. It makes a difference and those laws are to be upheld.

Not to be overruled by a tyrant.

Your a founding father type right?

Well many of them were smugglers and they often touted the line that any law that is an affront to individual liberty should be disobeyed.

Something else to remember is that the DREAM Act actually passed votes in both the House (216-198) and the Senate (55-41), but failed in the Senate due to the Republican's incessant filibustering of any substantive legislation (requiring 60 votes to override). Only in America could something pass both chambers of the legislature and be supported by the President but then fail to become law.

By using these endless blocking tactics in the Senate the GOP opened themselves up to Obama taking such action as he did today.

Paul is obedient to the laws he likes and an anarchist to the ones he dislikes.

Thanks to the anti-immigrant extremists who capitalized on a public growing weary from economic disarray and looking for a scapegoat.

Thugocracy.
