K2 not on NOA2 I-787

I just set the interview appointment for my fiancee. I listed both my fiancee and her 5 y.o. son on the I-129f.

The call center rep said that because the K2 wasn't listed on the I-787 that she needed to file a report with the embassy to be sure that the child can get an interview. Visa fees have been paid for each of them already.

My understanding from reading here on VJ is that it's normal for a 5 y.o. K2 to not appear on the I-787 and that the interview should happen with his mother without a problem. The rep took the boy's info and said she had to forward it to the embassy to confirm that she would be allowed to set an interview for him. No definite turnaround time was specified on when an answer would be forthcoming from the embassy.

Is this an issue or just a normal part of the K1/K2 process??

Her interview is set for 28Jun12 which means that they need to fly up this Sunday 17Jun12 for both of them to do their medicals next week. Are we taking a risk by having them go this weekend and pressing on for the 28Jun12 interview date?

We're a little wigged out to say the least! Should we cancel the 28th appointment and wait until we hear back from the embassy?

May your visa journey be smooth and speedy.

This is what I received in the email from the embassy this morning, letting me know that interviews could be set. I'd written to them to confirm receipt of the approved package and included both my fiancee and her son's information in the email, with passport numbers, visa receipt info, etc..

We received the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)-approved visa petition (I-129F) from the State Department's National Visa Center (NVC) on June 13, 2012, and notified the applicants in writing that they are now eligible to schedule a visa interview appointment.

May your visa journey be smooth and speedy.

I don't do the 156K... my fiancee does that for the interview.

Derivatives are never listed on the I-797. You didn't petition for the derivative. You petitioned for their mother. They are eligible to submit a visa application by virtue of the fact that a petition was approved for their mother. Their eligibility is derived from their mother's petition, which is why they're called derivatives.

Sounds like the call center rep is an idiot who doesn't understand the difference between a primary beneficiary and a derivative.

Whew! That's pretty much what I figured too Jim, but it sends the adrenaline pumping and got us really worried. Am texting now with my fiancee and she's digging through all the documents I sent her to see if I missed anything. I'm sure that I didn't. I've already double-checked them again this morning. Not to mention the zillion checks I did before submitting the original package.

Would you say that we're safe to send them both to Manila this weekend to begin the medicals in preparation for the interview on 28Jun12? Should I call the embassy again on Monday morning their time and try to escalate with a supervisor? Does the child actually need his own interview or does he just tag along with his mom?

May your visa journey be smooth and speedy.

Her appointment is already set for 28Jun12. As I said in my original post, both visa fees are already paid. We're trying to figure out what to do about the boy. He needs to go at the same time as his mom.

So your fiancee's son didn't need his own appointment? He just tagged along with his mom on her appointment without prior notice to the embassy?

Yes, the boy will have all his own paperwork.

some said the k2 don't need it anymore but my friend played safe, she set an appointment for her son online, just the same as the steps for k1. at first the were having a problem because USEM said they need to do like what you're saying filing for a report at the USEM, but on the 2nd time they called they said they don't need to do that anymore, so she set his appointment online same as her appointment :) but she got her visa first and her son just today, she was worried that they will missed their flight tomorrow :)

Was his appointment on a different date and time than your fiancee's? Is that why the visas came at different times?

I set it up for my finacee to pick up their visas in Manila.

I don't know what the process is in Manila, and I honestly don't remember if my wife's kids both had appointment letters or if they were included on my wife's appointment letter. I know it was one or the other because they needed an appointment letter in order to get the medicals completed and be admitted into the consulate.
