Just need suggestion whether to opt for Translator or not during our Immigrant Visa Interview at Mumbai Consulate....even if we r comfortable in speaking English ????

I'm asking this b'coz there r some positive and some negative reviews from applicants who has had their Interview recently. In one case the applicant suggested to opt for Translator even though we know to speak English..

In another case the Translator was very rough and asks more questions even though the American CO do not need any thing.

So, this is confusing for me whether to opt for translator or not....??????

So, if any guys have had their Interview recently at Mumbai do suggest if we opt for translator or not????

I am Gujarati and i am comfortable in speaking English.

"NO" Why would you want a translator for your case and let him/her give a chance to create a miscommunication with American CO. Remember that American CO are very sharp on understanding foreign english pronunciation. If you don't understand the question, feel free to ask the question again and won't hurt doing it. My only 2 cents for using Translator when you already know how to speak in English.

Thanks....Yeah u r right...Why would i give another person chance to spoil my case due to miscommunication. And this has happened to many applicants who r unaware of speaking english particlarly Gujaratis. Some times the CO is often convinced with applicant's answers but the mediator often thinks he/she is the CO and tries to ask more questions despite American CO.

And if we answer sumthg wrong or get confused, they put case under AP or ask some other docs etc etc....

Usually i hav heard the American CO is very polite and well mannered irrespective of Indian Translators who think themselves as Consuls and try to scare applicants. Also, American CO asks very few questions, they r always watching in their computers and writing sumthg during Interview...They dont even watch applicants during interview...

It is better to give Interview in English rather than in Native language without having any Mediator who spoil our case. It also creates good impression on American CO and we hav a direct communication with American.

That's right. I am Gujarati Native and all of my family relatives who came to USA on immigration they all chose to speak in English with American CO and they are all originally from Gujarat and went to Mumbai consulate.

Off the topic, It's an Indian mentality to not trust anyone on 1st instance with candidate's answers and always go choose a route to do cross verification, there may be very few who don't do that. Once you come to USA, you will realize the major difference between Indian and American culture's mentality when it comes to treat customers or strangers.

If you are comfortable with English, then go with English only.

When I was there, I saw how the Hindi/Gujrati Translator are rough to candidate and seems kind of mean. Of course, it doesnt applicable for all Translator, but some are. So better to opt for Eng.

Yaa...Thank You...u r absolutely right.

Indian Officers r more tough than American Officers coz its the typical mentality of Indians not to trust anyone in first instance. On Comparison Americans r more Polite and very well mannered to applicants. Even if there is sunthg wrong or sumthg missing in applicants case they tell applicants not to worry and instruct them what to do next.....

Indian Officers r more prone to Haressment to applicants as they think they hav the power ....and they misuse their powers

Also, comments from Indian Officers may also vary American CO's decision to issue a visa or put hold the case.....

Good luck with your interview

My suggestion to create your VJ timeline so others can know what immigration process you are doing and which stage you are at rightnow.

Well...i am in F1 and just few months away from Interview. I am from Gujarat and i will hav my Interview at Mumbai. I recently heard a very bad experience from one of my relatives during their Interview at Mumbai Consulate. They Opted for Translator and he talked very tough with them and they had a very bad time their, although they were granted Visa. So i thought to ask this question whether to opt for translator or not during our Interview.

I know and speak English very well...but hav never talked with any American so far as they speak english very fast so it might be difficult to understand their speech...So i posted thread and i thank u very much for advising me.

They dont speak english very fast. They just speak clearly in right type of speed. It is neither slow nor very fast.
