Nomenclature is not the issue, one could rechristen OT as harmless pastimes and chatter (HPC) and P and R to Controversial Topics (CT) but that wouldn't stop the complainants. Some people just have ans irrational hatred of games, due to some unspecified reason.

Seriously can you get anymore #######? I know rent a cops that aren't that uptight. Nothing rade2rising posted was a violation of TOS...and Iv'e seen a lot worse on here with no repercussions. If the PM was pasted in a post then it might warrant something, but stating someone got a PM from mod doesn't mean jack.

Sorry Kip, but the TOS is quite clear. The actual wording not withstanding, the message itself in whatever form forms the basis of the communication. For example, let's say Kathryn tells you to go F yourself, you post that she advised you to engage in self-gratification, it the same thing stated in another way. The TOS states : Post any information obtained or originally transmitted in confidence or with the implied belief that the message was to be kept in confidence without the express permission of the original author of the communication. Additionally any direct communication (with the exception of publicly viewable Posts on the discussion forums) between administrators or moderators and a member are strictly prohibited from being Posted to the discussion forums or retransmitted in any way. PMs contain confidential information.

My apologies to Bill. I didn't know it went that far into detail. I always took it for granted that everyone (mods included) just spread the info on Facebook for all to read thus circumventing VJ in that regard.

I have only participated on a couple other forums. In one literally anything goes. The other is also a lot looser.

This site, the admin, the members, they think "the TOS" is the US Constitution. It is so sad. The slightest comment and you are banned or suspended. Threads closed left and right.

In 5 years I have pushed the report button once or twice. What is the point? You should be suspended for 20 days just for hitting the report button IMO. And then for the next 45 days your avatar should automatically be the picture of a kid wearing a diaper.

I would like to know what is posting too much in OT?

I enjoy playing the games to keep myself occupied while waiting for the Visa to finally live with my husband and honestly I find the lynching of the another poster going a little too far. What was his violation?

Yes I see my profile on there at times on almost all of the interesting games at once like the other poster....is that the violation?

That occurs when I go through the games and post at a time when there is no one choosing to play

And for those who have never tried to challenge yourselves with the English language in games...give it a shot.

This was not starting out as a problem and I am sorry it came to ANY posters not being comfortable posting.

Somebody else can tell you better about the exact violation that the particular poster committed but you can read the TOS to start with, specifically the section on Permitted Uses. link

Personally, I find it stifling, for lack of a better word, when a poster:

- responds to all threads on the first page of OT

- fills the whole page of a game thread with only his/her posts when no one else is playing

- starts a new game which is neither enjoyable, interesting, nor thought-provoking

- revives threads that no one has posted in for three months or more

- posts things like "my name is..." or "I just wanna say woo hoo!"

Look at the timestamps of the links I've noted above. Someone posts something two to three times in less than a minute. What for? That alone muzzles other posters' enjoyment of the games. Imagine you have a hunk of a neighbor. You go to your favorite coffeeshop before work, he's there. You pick up some groceries at 5 pm, he's there. It's yoga weekend for you and he's there. Wherever you go and in all that you do, you find him there. Would you still consider him attractive? I find what he's doing quite creepy.

Before we ask that a subforum for games be created, we first have to understand what a game is or should be. For me, randomly posting numbers, current temperatures across the globe, writing what the time is, etc. are not games. There are no skills, strategies, or just a tiny fraction of any cognitive process involved. Heck, they're not even entertaining. Why do they exist?

And for those who have never tried to challenge yourselves with the English language in games...give it a shot.

Even kids under 10 can answer the word games on OT. Those games weren't designed to challenge anyone's proficiency or knowledge of the English language. Those were merely made for fun and have become breeding grounds for post padding.

This was not starting out as a problem and I am sorry it came to ANY posters not being comfortable posting.

Things stop being fun when not done in moderation.

A person wasting a little idle time should have the luxury to play each game on this public forum as a member and it is not under their control that it pops up to the top of the forum page hence making a whole page of only their posts on OT for that time being.

This part of your post was unnecessary to add. I am quite aware of the proficiency level the games have and it is just for fun that I made this suggestion.

There is one addmission I have while we are on the subject...I have learned a few new words with scrabble so you are not entirely correct.

Padding? That is still a mystery to me and have no desire to figure out of why it is made to be so important. Or treasured. Or taboo. Depending on whom you ask.

Again with the funky five words...it may not be educational or designed to challenge anyone's proficiency or knowledge of the English language

It's a post padding thread, just like posting the time and temperature, just to name a few. There's no need of those in a game forum either, they're not games.
