Separate Game Subforum?

I've seen a few people comment on the fact that the Off Topic forum is basically full of "game threads" such as: what time it is, scrabble (2 threads for this one), say something nice, say ANYTHING, what temperature it is, counting, word games, etc ...

This doesn't personally bother me too much, but it would be nice if the games had their own forum so that people who were looking to actually have off topic conversations with people had somewhere to go without sifting through pages and pages of games. Perhaps a subforum that is linked to Off Topic, but has its own area.

Is this an idea anybody is open to, or has it been brought up before?

Not just that, but the general tenor of that forum has become stupid. The response to everything is a cat picture or something equally juvenile and retarded. Even if one attempted a topic that had the potential to be intelligent and thought provoking, the morons who infest OT would quickly descend on it with cartoon character impersonations and cat pictures and donkey jokes and ruin it.

There's nothing moderation can do about this.

I think it's a good idea. I don't even bother going there since it's stuff like count backwards from 10000 to 1. It's obvious threads like that serve no purpose except to run up members post counts. I can see any other reason for it.

Yeah, we have suggested a Games sub-forum as well. So far it hasn't got too far but I personally think it is a good idea and will keep trying to make the idea fly. It would allow for true Off Topic types of posts to then be more readily seen and encourage more participation there, and really doesn't make the site any more cumbersome - at least in my opinion .

Well no, people will post what they'd like no matter where the forum is. I do think, however, that if some of the "clutter" as it's been called was out of sight, and other actual discussions were being posted, people might be motivated to join in with actual responses. We just have to encourage people to actually post them

An easier solution would be to rename OT to Games and rename PR to OT.

Bleh, the general atmosphere of the PR forum is not welcoming or encouraging at all. Giving it a new name wouldn't change what's going on in there - which is pretty much a bunch of hate speech and insults.

Again, you can't do much about tone. That's just a reflection of who posts here.

If you want to change tone on VJ, go talk to Congress. Have them remove joint sponsors. Have them up (drastically) the income requirements to sponsor. Have them clamp down on the use of agencies to import hotties from nuclear disaster zones and other nasty places. Make those (and other) changes and you'll see a change of tone here too.

personally i find it really retarded posting political cartoons and laughing about it but i respect others so i just stay out of religion/political section all together.

this forum is HUGE, find your niche and stay there, if you want to be everywhere then get use to the fact that not everyone is YOU and have YOUR taste.

Moderation has everything to do with this. They are solely responsible for necroposting in long buried games as of March 6, 2012. This was not the case before their interdiction.

I have no issues with the word games or the people who post in them. On a slow day at work, I've made a couple posts in them as well. I just believe they should have their own subforum so that if people want to go to OT to have actual conversations, those conversations aren't buried in pages of games.
