I don't get why these graphs say anything all that great about President Obama's job.

Not to mention since Jan 2010, the graph shows the weakest, flattest recovery we've ever seen, with lots of ups and downs.

How much does that have to do with government? There has been a huge change in how private businesses work. They are much more efficient and getting much more efficient over time. With efficiency they need less workers.

So, despite a falling labor force participation rate over his two terms in office, the unemployment rate never fully recovered to the the low point at the start of Bush's presidency. In fact, at the end of Bush's two terms, the unemployment rate was almost twice (7.9%) what it was when he took office (4.0%). At this point of his presidency, the unemployment rate was 40% above what it was when Bush took office. As of now, the unemployment rate is not even 4% above what it was when this President took office. The lowest unemployment rate during Bush's 8 years in office was recorded in Dec 2006 - almost 6 years after he took office. So, let's see where we are in Dec 2014. You know, since we're talking about context and all.

Well, actually politicians generally do seek office for the right reasons, but the farther you climb up the ladder, the harder it is to remember why you made the climb in the first place. The view looking down is a lot different than the view looking up.
