I-797C, Notice of Action

I believe that the form I am looking at is our NOA1. But when I look on the VJ site at the sample NOA1, the fields are set up differently. And I am not able to expand the sample NOA1 to read the teeny print.

Here's what I see on our NOA1

Top line:

NOTICE TYPE:Receipt

(Still on the top line, but WAY, WAY over to the right) NOTICE DATE: February 14, 2012

Second Line:

CASE TYPE: I-129F, Petition for Alien Fiance

(Still on 2nd line but WAY, WAY over to the right) USCIS ALIEN NUMBER: XXXXXXXXXX

Third line:

RECEIPT NUMBER: EAC XXXXX

(in the middle of the 3rd line)RECEIVED DATE:February 10, 2012

(to the far right on 3rd line) PAGE: 1 of 1

I'd scan & attach if I knew how to do that.

So, is this really the NOA1? And is 2/14/12 the date I should use in our timeline?

Am I just over-thinking this? The difference in the form setup just makes me nervous.

Thanks,

Jena

Yes. That is the NOA1. :) That's your first notice of action that you receive on your case.

I would use the notice date for your timeline. I'm not sure it really matters, though.

Simply, if it's a I-797C, it's a NOA1 (First Notice of Action you receive). It should say that the USCIS received your petition.

The NOA2 will be I-797, without the C. :) It will say clearly your petition was approved.

Once again, confusion over the term "NOA1". Just go with what it says on the actual form: Receipt Notice.

Hopefully your next "NOA" will be an approval notice and not a RFE.

There was no confusion over the term. The OP was simply stating their NOA1 did not look like the example provided by VJ.

NOA is really not nearly as confusing as you make it out to be. Especially when VJ itself tells you they're informal terms.

Hello, sorry to bother you, i have a quick question: When a lawyer is on behalf between the petitioner & USCIS, does the USCIS mail the NOA to both the lawyer and petitioner or just to the lawyer?

During the USCIS stage, my wife received mails from the USCIS but they were only the Request for evidence I & II. is it possible that the lawyer received the NOA & NOA 2?

My purpose is to get my timeline done, but i don't have the dates, i know few dates but not all dates.

Thank you for your time.

USCIS changed the appearance of their Form I-797c earlier this year:

Like others have said, it sounds like you received your Form I-797c. receipt of your initial petition. In VJ-speak that is called NOA1.

Good luck on your visa journey.

Completed: K1/K2 (271 days) - AOS/EAD/AP (134 days) - ROC (279 days)
