Actually if you bothered to read the OP... no proof was presented to the effect of their immigration status. That a journalist made a statement from a hearsay source does not constitute fact. Once their status is confirmed by the USCIS nobody really knows. Until then it makes for juicy speculation. A man with a foreign sounding last name in TX does not constitute proof of immigration status or lack thereof.

so the sheriff made a statement based on an investigation team findings of the incident

why would the family lie to the sheriff (about being illegal) and why would the sheriff lie to the press

You have the right to free speech, but I have a hunch that you support your local city ordinance on disturbing the peace.

Most of our constitutional rights come with some caveat or condition, why the 2nd Amendment should get any special treatment as being the holiest of holies is beyond logic.

Just so we're clear on this: We shouldn't have gun laws because criminals don't obey laws, but we need tighter immigration because of all the illegals. It's all making sense now.

Thats one of the laws that does not bother me that much, you get it by taking a quick multiple choice exam. Its pretty simple safety items plus you have to have a basic operating knowledge of revolvers and 1911 style handguns.

doesn't CA also require you to take an exam:

to be eligible for casting a a vote?

to determine if you're eligible to a speedy public trial ... by an impartial jury

to determine if you are eligible to be secure in your person, house, papers and effects against unreasonable searches and seizures ...

to determine if a soldier shall not be quartered (in time of peace) in any house without the consent of the owner

I think certain training requirements are in line with the 2nd amendment. After all, you may be able to vote but some states require ID. Unconstitutional? No way.

To get a speedy trial you must first be determined fit for trial.

There are also boundaries on search and seizure. For instance, if you fail to shut your car door the police can put their body inside and look around.

Don't get me wrong, many CA laws are stupid....such as the 10 round limit or outlawing pistols that can fire shot.
