so .. it appears you think a gun show is necessary to purchase (or obtain) a firearm regardless of status or eligibility?

No, it appears that Gun Shows are perfect places for people not eligible to purchase firearms to, well, purchase firearms no questions asked.

That is the main reason these shows exist in the first place, they cater for all those individuals who would otherwise be denied a permit or who have reason to stay out of the radar of law enforcement.

try purchasing using your criteria from a dealer at a show (you do know most of the tables are occupied by dealers ... right? )

have you never heard of purchasing on the local street corner or through a friend of a friend? who needs a show

heck ... if i started looking i could probably buy something within a few days simply by letting a few people know what i'm looking for ... no questions asked. now will it be stolen or legit is another question ....

....

That's how you'd buy if didn't want to file for a permit.

are you really this ignorant of how a firearm is purchased from a dealer ?

(i'm not talking about buying from john/jane q public)

Many, if not most gun shows have a greater number of John/Jane q public than dealers. Yes, you can buy an eintire armory from a gang, but you would be better off buying from anyone at a gun show. No paperwork needed nor required. And yes, you can buy a gun from a licensed dealer with no paperwork as well. Money talks.

Just so we're clear on this: We shouldn't have gun laws because criminals don't obey laws, but we need tighter immigration because of all the illegals. It's all making sense now.

We don't even know for sure if the guy was actually in this country illegally. However, on a positive note it seems this thread is not about illegal immigration, so much as ways to obtain guns in barely legal manners.

you need a permit?

specifically ... you (not a generic usage of the word you)

Specifically, anyone in Texas would need a permit.

I do not need a permit.

I do not need a permit.

i also don't need a "permit" to legally purchase a firearm ....

now ... please provide a link to a TX government website to back-up your statement about "anyone in Texas would need a permit"

Actually if you bothered to read the OP... no proof was presented to the effect of their immigration status. That a journalist made a statement from a hearsay source does not constitute fact. Once their status is confirmed by the USCIS nobody really knows. Until then it makes for juicy speculation. A man with a foreign sounding last name in TX does not constitute proof of immigration status or lack thereof.
