yep, it is in total over 7 years, so you have a little more than 6 years of waiting, you have to check every month the visa bulletin, category F1. this is July's bulletin

7 Years, geez is that real. Do i have other options to reduce the duration?

So why visa calculator show 20 months?

Pls advise me.

Best Regards / Myo Min

Check July's Visa Bulletin here: http://travel.state.gov/visa/bulletin/bulletin_1360.html and see the different categories. If your parent is a US Citizen you're F1. If your parent is a resident you're F2B.

What is this "visa calculator" you are talking about? My guess is that the 20 months is the time it takes to approve the i-130. However, you still have to wait for a visa to be available to you (which will take 7 years or more).

You misunderstood. You do not add 5.0 + 9.8 + 5.0 = 20. This is all the same process for approving the I-130. Approving the I-130 is only the first step in getting an immigration visa. There are many steps. You have only completed the first step.

After the I-130 is approved in 5-12 months on average (some take less time and some take more - this is average - not a promise for completion). Once the I-130 is approved, then you wait for a total of approximately 7 years to apply for a visa. Yes, in 7 years, you will file more paperwork to apply for a visa.

Every child over 21 of a US citizen must wait this long. There is no way for you to cut the waiting time as it would be unfair to the other adult children of other US citizens if you got to skip the wait.

To see the 7 years wait, go look at the Visa Bulletin. The category for adult child over 21 of a US citizen is Family Preference F1. See the July 2012 Visa Bulletin where only those with a date before 08Jul05 (July 8, 2005) are eligible to apply for visas? This means only those with approved I-130 filed before July 8, 2005 can apply for visas. That means that adult child has been waiting for 7 years to be eligible to apply for visas. http://travel.state.gov/visa/bulletin/bulletin_1360.html
