Ok. I found the answer. Thanks for the replies.

According to the State Department web site there can be up to two joint sponsors.

When can there be a Joint Sponsor?

A joint sponsor may submit an Affidavit of Support to sponsor all or some of the family members if the primary sponsor does not meet the income requirements. A maximum of two joint sponsors per petition can be used. Each joint sponsor is only responsible for the applicant(s) listed on that joint sponsor’s Affidavit of Support. Important note: If a joint sponsor is used, the petitioning sponsor must submit Form I-864, not Form I-864EZ.

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3183.html

it is for Per Petion but on your petition the number of intending immigrant is ONLY ONE, your wife. JOINT SPONSOR does not exist if he/she can't meet the minumum income requirements to sponsor AT LEAST one immigrant.

What Is a Joint Sponsor? ( per I -864 Affidavit of support under section 213A)

If the person who is seeking the immigration of one or more of his or her relatives cannot meet the income requirements, a "joint sponsor" who can meet the requirements may submit a Form I-864 to sponsor all or some of the family members. A joint sponsor can be any U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident who is at least 18 years old, domiciled in the United States, or its territories or possessions, and willing to be held jointly liable with the petitioner for the support of the intending immigrant. A joint sponsor does not have to be related to the petitioning sponsor or the intending immigrant.

If the first joint sponsor completes Form I-864 for some rather than all the family members, a second qualifying joint sponsor will be required to sponsor the remaining family members. There may be no more than two joint sponsors. A joint sponsor must be able to meet the income requirements for all the persons he or she is sponsoring without combining resources with the petitioning sponsor or a second joint sponsor. Any dependents applying for an immigrant visa or adjustment of status more than six months after immigration of the intending immigrants must be sponsored by the petitioner but may be sponsored by an original joint sponsor or a different joint sponsor.

Even if one or more I-864s are submitted for an intending immigrant, the petitioning sponsor remains legally accountable for the financial support of the sponsored alien along with the joint sponsor(s).

Now its upto you, how you find the ANSWER......

What about this then? I got this from the same source as you.

How Can My Relatives and Dependents Help Me Meet the Income Requirements? ( per I -864 Affidavit of support under section 213A)

You may use the income of your spouse and/or any other relatives living in your residence if they are willing to be jointly responsible with you for the intending immigrant(s) you are sponsoring. If you have any unrelated dependents listed on your income tax return you may include their income regardless of where they reside.

The income of such household members and dependents can be used to help you meet the income requirements if they complete and sign Form I-864A, Contract Between Sponsor and Household Member, and if they are at least 18 years of age when they sign the form.

I - 864 is not just for CR-1/IR-1 purpose. So, each and every statement does not neccessary apply for you.

On this para, they are talking How you can meet the income Requirments not about JOINT SPONSOR. Foremost, when you are filling I -130 for spouse, DOS wants to make sure the CASE is GENUINE, there is no compromise, after that they also want intending immigrant does not become public charge but they are trying to be flexible as possible as they know every one won't able to meet the minimum income requirement. thats why there is a lot options to improve your chance to meet the minimum income requirment.

If you read the last line, they are asking CONTRACT between Sponsor and Household Member besides I-864A.

make it simple: I can be your JOINT SPONSOR if I solely meet the minimum income requirments but you can't just add my income to meet your minimum income requirment. there are certain conditions ( your spouse and/or any other relatives living in your residence ,unrelated dependents listed on your income tax return )that can help you to meet the minimum income requirments....

If you describe your actual situation, other VJers might able to help you out.....If things can be done on simple way, dont try to make it complicated......its tricky though....

good luck....

As per my discussion in this thread: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/372632-so-is-it-one-or-two-or-more/

SO CAN A HOUSEHOLD MEMBER INCLUDE THEIR INCOME BY BEING A JOINT SPONSOR (I-864a) ADDING TO THE INCOME OF THE SPONSOR THUS TOTALING THE OVERALL HOUSEHOLD INCOME?

Thanks.

Duplicate topics asking the same information have been merged. This is actually the third topic you have started on the same issue. Do not start another thread on this issue. Continue the discussion here. You have already received the information you have requested a number of times. Starting a new thread to ask for the same information is not going to change the information to something different than what you have already been told.

If you do not find the answers here satisfactory you may prefer to seek the services of a qualified immigration lawyer instead.

Thank you for the replies.

I believe I understand.

As per stated by navchusu11, "there are certain conditions ( your spouse and/or any other relatives living in your residence ,unrelated dependents listed on your income tax return )that can help you to meet the minimum income requirments...."

So the way I understand it, I CAN include income from relatives who reside in the same household to help me meet the minimum income requirments.

Thanks again for your help.

Oh and sorry about the multiple threads. I wasn't aware it was not allowed under the same topic discussion. Thanks.

Just an update for those who had the same question as mine...

My wife had her interview today and she was approved...

I filed a I-864 for myself as the petitioner

I filed a I-864a for both my brother and mother who are joint sponsors and are household members.

My income on VA disability is $17,600 a year.

My mother's income on SS disability is $13,000 a year.

My brother's income on SS disability is $6,500 a year.

The total income for the household is $37,000 a year.

If using other household members to add to your income then that is fine in order to increase the total household income in order to meet the 125% threshold.

Special thanks to all the VJ advice recieved on this matter in order to help understand the I-864 better.

This comment is a bit late but he's the answer to your question

A joint sponsor may submit an Affidavit of Support to sponsor all or some of the family members if the primary sponsor does not meet the income requirements. A maximum of two joint sponsors per petition can be used. Each joint sponsor is only responsible for the applicant(s) listed on that joint sponsor’s Affidavit of Support. Important note: If a joint sponsor is used, the petitioning sponsor must submit Form I-864, not Form I-864EZ.

Good luck!

Yes but with a visa the petitioner MUST be the first sponsor, so for each immigrant you can find one other person to help.

For example I petition for my sister and her 3 kids I am the primary sponsor for all 4 , for each of these people I can find another person to help. If I have one other person that can do all 4 then fine or I can have someone do 3 and another do one or 2 people each help with 2 or a person for each ( I think I covered all the possibilities ) but it is alwasy me and someone else ( max 2 ) per person . The math is a nightmare sometimes ( hubby has 21 siblings ,some married with children that may expect sibling petitions when he is a citizen) so figuring out how to afford people can be an interesting task.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.
