So is it one or two or more?

So what is the final answer to this deliberating question on my mind?

How many co-sponsors can a CR-1 filer have when submitting the I-864?

Is it for sure one or two? Maybe more?

Only when sponsoring ONE person. So how many?

The person with the right answer gets a gold star.

The petitioner is always the primary sponsor regardless of income.

A joint sponsor can combine their income with a qualifying household member via the I-864A.

There cannot be two separate joint sponsors for one individual.

Thanks for the reply Anh Map.

My question is simply when not meeting the minimum required income, how many co-sponsors can I have to increase my income.

The co-sponsors fill out the I-864a so how many can I have co-sponsoring?

It is only one immigrant; my spouse.

THANKS

If you need to cobble together 3 or more incomes that is going to be a tough sell to the CO. It might not be accepted regardless of the total incomes.

Is this a situation where both parents would be using their incomes to meet the requirement? If so, have one parent do the 864, the other do an 864A.

No. Acually I will be the primary sponsor and will be filling out the I-864 using my VA disability income. I want to increase the total income so I need a co-sponsor to fill out the I-864a. My question is how many co-sponsors can I use when using someone from the same household in the states.

So when you apply for someone the petition is always primary #1 sponsor. If they do not meet the requirements they can get help for each body immigrating. If that help is a married couple they kind of count as a single co sponsor if they file taxes together. One fills out the I 864 and the other the I864A . You don't get to combine random people just because they share an address only when they are a "unit" in the eyes of the government ( married)

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Lay out the specific numbers here. If it takes 2 + you to meet the income, then you have 2 weak joint sponsors. Who are the potential household members? There are no extra points for being way over.

Don't try to game the system. Just get the visa.

I think you both are misunderstanding my question.

A petitioner filing for a CR-1 and including a I-864 AOS can have a co-sponsor as well fill out a I-864a in order to increase the earned income in order to meet or exceed the minimum poverty rate.

My question is how many co-sponsors can one use to increase that total income.

The co-sponsors will come from the same household in which the petitioner and immigrant will reside.

Thanks.

I understand completely and am asking for specific info to give you a more concrete answer.

What you are proposing is a very weak Affidavit of Support that could be rejected by the CO. That means no visa.

So is it only one co-sponsor allowed for each immigrant?

I am sponsoring my wife only.

So I can have only one co-sponsor? Can I have two co-sponsors?

The potential household memebers would be my mother and/or my brother both recieving disability from social security.

Firstly, when it comes to filing an I-864, joint sponsor is the proper term.

Secondly, and this is specific to your case, if you cannot meet the income requirement on your own, you will need a joint sponsor. If the joint sponsor cannot meet the income requirement on their own, they can combine income with a member of their household to meet the requirement (the household member would fill out an I-864A). Since your wife is the only intending immigrant, you cannot have two separate joint sponsors.

Thirdly and most importantly, simply meeting or exceeding the threshold is not a guarantee the Affidavit of Support will be accepted. CO's have discretion in determining the "likely to become a public charge" question and can still refuse a visa on this basis even if the incomes of the sponsor, joint sponsor, or joint sponsor/household member are at a qualifying number.

THANKS

First of all, Co-Sponsor ( Joint Sponsor) does not increase your income, means your income and Co-sponsor income do not combine [e. $ 25 ( yours) and $ 50 ( co-sponsor) does not count as total of $75]

2nd : A joint sponsor must be able to meet the income requirements for all the persons he or she is sponsoring without combining resources with the petitioning sponsor or a second joint sponsor.

So, if you have only ONE intending Immigrant, you cant have mutiple Co-sponsor. If one Co-sponsor can't Sponsor at least 1 applicant then that Co-Sponsor is not eligible for a JOINT SPONSOR.

Hope you got the better picture ....

Ok. I found the answer. Thanks for the replies.

According to the State Department web site there can be up to two joint sponsors.

When can there be a Joint Sponsor?

A joint sponsor may submit an Affidavit of Support to sponsor all or some of the family members if the primary sponsor does not meet the income requirements. A maximum of two joint sponsors per petition can be used. Each joint sponsor is only responsible for the applicant(s) listed on that joint sponsor’s Affidavit of Support. Important note: If a joint sponsor is used, the petitioning sponsor must submit Form I-864, not Form I-864EZ.
