you need the i-134 and tax forms at the interview, why would you want to send it ahead of time and risk them not having it? just request and bring last 3 years of tax transcripts in support of the i-134 to the interview, that's the best. it takes 5-7 business days to get hardcopies of transcripts.

it seems like HCM is updating alot of the procedures (mailed approved visas, more electronic/online correspondence). we just had the interview last may and it seems like alot of the stuff we went through is already outdated. it was pretty much status quo there forever.

Hard copy needed.

All you have to do is send a copy of your tax return along with the W2, etc. Make a copy of your copy and send it along.

If you want to send the transcript instead, you can get a transcript faxed to you on the same day, or mailed within a few weeks. Use the phone number in my signature below.

do i want account or return transcript?

Return transcript. That's a line by line listing of what was contained on your tax return. An account transcript is only a summary of your account status with the IRS. It doesn't list your total income, which is primarily what the consulate wants to see.
