my husband and I we want to get marry by the church but he wants to bring his parents to usa for the wedding can anyone tell me what kind of paper work i have to submit and howlong it will take... we are thinking to get marry on feb 11 07.. thanks for any info u can give me... his parents live in colombia

The only way for the parents to be in the wedding, would be using a tourist visa (B1/B2).

I looked at the Columbian consulate website, they dont indicate how long it would take, but it should not be very long at all since it is a tourist visa should issue same day of visit to embassy, they do states that strung ties to Columbia need to be demonstrated in order for them to issue a visa.

If the colombian embassy is anything like the venezuelan embassy, what would take time is getting actually an interview date for the tourist visa. I think if you go to the embassy website, it should tell you what documents they need, and when is the next appointment date available. For Venezuela its backlogged 5 or 6 months for tourist visas. Also, there is the factor of being denied, and I understand that the Colombian embassy has a high rate of denials. They would have to show strong ties to the country (demonstrated by documents of ownership of property, bank statements, employment letters and of course I would back it up with a letter - from you the USC - stating the reason and dates for their visit).

But again, go to the embassy webpage, and find out more about it.

According to other people I know trying to get tourist visa's from Colombia is very hard because you need to show ties that you will return. I know people with kids, jobs and bank accounts and they still could not get the tourist visa.

I am not telling you not to try but it will be hard. They need to have a lot of ties to Colombia in order to show they are going back. They need to show as many as possible; own property, own, assets, own car/truck, bank account with a lot of money, job, school, kids (staying in Colombia), etc. The older the person is the better.

My wife and I are going back to Armenia, Colombia to get married through a Catholic Church wedding in summer of 2007 because of this.

You can't do anything for your parents' visa. They need to apply for one on their own, unlike your K-1, the USC has to petition for the visa.

Generally, think like The State Department and Visa Center: will this person who enters the US under a tourist visa will return to his/her country? What evidence do they have to show for their "touring" intention? Are they reliable? Or they just trick us and get in the country, then apply for Immigrant Status? These are some of the many questions you need to prepare your parents to answer when they come to the visa interview.

Again, Tourist Visa happens, but not often and as easy as some people think...

I think that thewre are 2 things that you need to take care in order for his prents to receive tourist visa:

1. Affidavit of support I-134 and supporting documents to show that there will be support here while they are travelling

2. They need to bring to the visa interview prove that they have strong reasons to return to their country after the happy event.

I don't know specific details regarding Columbia, but they are asking for strong reasons to return for Romanian people also at the visa interview for tourist visa.

Some copies regarding your wedding preparations with committed dates will help to issue visa on time for them to attend the wedding.
