My husband is in canada and he plann on staying for a while to work even after he recieve the visa. Is that possible? Does anyone know how long you got after you recieve visa to leave the country? His other option was to come and once get the GC go back to canada to work and then move completely in april 2013. Any comment or suggestion will be appreciated.

On a CR-1/IR-1 he can enter the US, and take the next flight back to Canada, no problem. However, if he spends too much time continuously outside the US (especially 6 months+), his permanent residence status may be considered abandoned, and you'll have to start the process from scratch again.

If he just entered, I would not risk going back to work in Canada, unless you live in a border town and he can live in the US and work in Canada. If not I'd rather see if he can schedule the interview at a later date, and just visit you in the meantime.

After he receives a visa, it must be activated with in six months. Then the visa expires. Once he activates the visa and has a green card in hand he can travel back and forth as much as he wants, but the burden of proof lies with him to prove he is indeed a US permanent resident, living in the US. If a CBP officer deems he is spending too much time outside of the US they can, and will, take his green card.
