The apostilled birth certificate is on its way. So that with my passport is all I need to take, and then at the US embassy in Kiev I will get the letter of non impediment correct?

Snowbelt. Not knowing if you had previous marriages or not, and our wedding was in Moscow Russia, not Ukraine but I can say

that you DO Need Apostile Divorce Certificate of all previous marriages (or State issued Death Certificates with Apostile

if your past Spouse is Deceased) in order to obtain the Document required to marry. This is an International Law process.

DO NOT make the mistake of going there without the Apostile stamp on the State issued Certificates. It is always better

to have the Documents with Apostile if requested than to NOT have if you need it. Remember, the US Embassy cannot help

you obtain these documents if requested, and your fiance' will be a very unhappy one!!

Doing this while in the States is actually not difficult.

Each State has a littel different process for obtaining the Certificates and applying the Apostile.

Surf the Net for the State(s)involved and call them. Explain your reasons and they will tell you what they need from you.

Usually the dates involved and other persons full name. The cost is very reasonable (for instance, my New Mexico Divorce

Certificate was $8 if I remember). As far as Translating your Birth Certificate..in Moscow it was required for me. We had

problems with that because the spelling of my last name did not exactly "fit" the Russian language. We had to make two trips

to the Translators office to get this correct. Make SURE the Translation sounds like your name if it is any question. It matters

for your Spouse who will need a new Passport and other ID while your waiting for the CR-1 Visa.

You will need a Ukrainian Notary to accept the translation. If your in Kiev there will be such services in the city, they will

do both, translate and notarize. It is also reasonable in cost for this.

Best of Luck and please let us know your results. Others following you will also benefit from your experience. I want to say

something right here and now too. The ZAGs Director at ZAGs #4 in Moscow could not have been more helpful. She was fully

understanding and patient with us. We had a beautiful Wedding and it was mostly due to Svetlana's help at ZAG's. She followed

the law strictly, but also let us know the easiest way to accomplish all the legwork in Moscow because of my Translation of

my Birth Certificate. It would have caused my Wife problems later on Immigration to the States had we not done as suggested.
