We met during a bank robbery. I was robbing the bank, and then she came in the rob the same bank! Can you believe it? Well, we got to chatting in the back of the police car on the way to the station and we really hit it off. The rest, as they say, is history.

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

I also want to add that, having both parents who do not know English as their first language, with language barriers, I think patience is the most important, and not taking everything so literally :) Often times, it's fun :)

I have to agree that the language barrier often times does create some very funny situations. My wife did not speak a word of English when we met. Although, she pretended that she knew english in our E-mails before we had our first physical meeting. I spoke an intermediate amount of Russian and our first meeting and the first week together, we had a lot of funny conversations.

I met my husband Robert when I came to the States as J1 student trhough Work and Travel USA program. Our mutual friend introduced us to each other, but Robert likes to make up stories about how we met. He usually says that he ordered me from one of the web-sites in the internet. Kinda funny and it's amazing that people actually believe us. :)

It's not amazing at all. Most people here in the States think the only way a guy could marry a Russian girl is to "order" her through a mail-order bride catalog or website.

Welcome to America!

My wife likes to tell people she's from Africa! They believe her, and that's also "amazing." What's amazing is the amount of cultural awareness the average American posesses.

My wife is so tired of people asking where she is from. Now she answers "China" and they just shut up. I think it's funny (:

My wife and I often tell people she is from upper mongolia (thats actually close to the truth since Irkutsk is very close to the mongolian border but it sounds funnier. In high school a friend and I had t-shirts made that said we graudated from the international javelin catching school in upper mongolia, it was an olympic year and the tshirts we amusing for awhile) The other thing I like to tell people when they ask my wife where she came from I tell them home, when they get tired of the smartass and sarcastic answers they stop asking.

i met my wife on date.com....we will have been married 3 yrs in august....we are happily married, and i have always hated the mail order bride title......for anyone who has actually gone through the process, it is quite expensive and time consuming..........i am sorry to hear that some relationships did not work for whatever reason....marriage is a tough business, and takes alot of work and patience...good luck to all...................

I actually take the "mail order bride" thing and run with it now.

As Thom already stated, the smartass and sarcastic answers usually work.
