Oh you'd be such a cool teacher!!!!!!!

I actually was (briefly) a teacher. Taught second grade. Howeva, the organization I was with working for my alternative certification and I had some philosophical differences that caused us to part ways. If I ever will be a teacher (and it's always in the back of my mind), I'm going back to school and getting certified the old fashion way.

I always wanted to be a kindergarden teacher but my parents would only pay for me to go to college if I majored in something that would make a good income, so teaching the wee ones was out. :(

Rahma - I think it's an American thing because that's what the parents at our mosque do too. There is another American girl (mom) there and she and I freak out because the other parents will not make their kids behave or even bring something to keep them occupied - they just let them run a muck, screaming and just going crazy. A few weeks back I locked them all downstairs with me and we watched some movie that I managed to dig up and colored. All their moms said "Oh you're so patient with them, you'd be a great teacher". I just can't understand why you would be so inconsiderate to people who are trying to pray. Youssef said "they're not your kids don't worry about them" riiiiight.... Anyway totally understand where you're coming from!

Husband and I have already had a talk about how our kids will be have in the masjid, and it won't involve running around at all  Husband tells me about how he behaved as a little kid, and when he lived in Saudia at age 9, he would go to the masjid during Ramadan by himself to pray taraweeh. I keep getting visions of a little version of my husband in a thobe and kufi and go awwwwwwwwww.

I know for me, going to church as a kid, if you weren't in the nursery, you were quiet, reading a book or coloring or anything. I can't imagine what would have happened to me if I had behaved like these kids do

I managed to find this book to read stories from, and it's pretty decent. It's on my list of things to get when I have a kid.

Oh, I forgot the whole reason why I had finally had enough. Usually I just attempt to tune them out or find someplace quiet outside to sit. But this time, the little angels were throwing around a stuffed animal, and got ti stuck up on top of a light. This caused the light to spark all over the place, and the little bear started to smoke. Rrrrrr. No parents of the kids came to see about the smoke coming from the musalla. Only myself and another brother with two small girls were worried that the place may burn down.

If you're looking for some good stuff for your daughters, these are some other books that I've looked through at bookstores and like, and will definately be getting when kiddies come. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of decent muslim childrends literature out there, especially once you get into the chapter school age. There are some nice picture books.

Muhammad - I'm thinking of actually getting this one to read to the kids at the masjid. The pictures are beautiful

Mansa Musa

Traveling Man

Aziz the Story Teller

Celebrating Ramadan

What you will see inside a mosque

This one is definately too young for your girls. I already have this one. Couldn't stop myself, it was so cute

This week is going to drag so much. I'm already counting hours till I leave today - 4 hours and 15 minutes to go. I don't know why, but lately I've been so unmotivated for work. :(

ETA: It's probably because of ramadan. No coffee has been extra hard!

I'm right there with ya sista friend!

I try not to think about it but I used to have 1 cup of coffee while getting ready in the morning, then I'd bring a travel cup with me for the commute (all Starbucks hi-test btw  ), then I'd drink water all morning long. Then with lunch I'd go to the 7/11 and grab a huge 20oz diet coke and refill it at around 3pm!!!!!!!

*sigh*

It helps me pass time too. We have free coffee in our caf, so I mosey on down two or three times every morning to get some. I've realized that I am most definitely a caffeine addict. :(

Ok no fair for the confusion on the two Monday threads. Especially when I didn't get to have my tea with suhoor.

Typical Monday morning here. Trying to get into the swing of things. Talked to Usama last night and he has been sick with the flu for a few days with no one at all to help him since his sisters are living with a friend of theirs now. He said he almost died yesterday 'cause there was no one to get him some water. I was like, "why didn't you just get it yourself" and he said, "I was sick in bed.".

Ok call me uncaring and heartless but I'm a single mom of two Irish twins (less than a year apart) and I can remember having 102 temp and having to still wake up to feed both daughters at 2am while my husband was out sleepin' around. I know the poor guy is sick but I think men tend to be a bit of a baby when it comes to illness. :P

Tomorrow I have to get a Hep A and a Typhoid shot for my trip and then some sort of antibiotic. Anyone know why I'd need an antibiotic? Also, did anyone have side effects from these shots. Oh and one more question......does a shot negate my fast for the day?

Ok that's it outta me. Hope everyone has a good one!

Men are such babies!

'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride'
