You may wish to ask this question under the forum for the country in which you are applying to compare your waiting times with similar cases.

I can answer for Guangzhou. The Chief Consular Officer for Guangzhou said that the average waiting time for administrative processing is about 90 days but can take far longer, depending upon the individual case. We have been waiting since "approval" on March 20, 2012. My fiancee waited for 2 whole weeks in Guangzhou, going to the post office near the Embassy which she listed on her EMS Waybill for pick-up. She tried to call the Embassy, but they were very rude. They refused to answer her but just told her to use the website. I used the website, and they told me to tell her to go home, and in 2 weeks or so she would receive a notification of administrative processing required.

Have you yet received a notification (e.g., 221g, depending on the type of visa you are applying for and the type of administrative action)? If so, what did this document say? Was additional information requested? If so, what was it, and have you complied with the instructions yet?

Administrative processing can be requested for a variety of reasons such as missing or incompletely filled out paperwork submitted, additional time required for verification of background checks, previous denials for other visas and/or "quasi-refusal" codes entered into the computer which the Consular Officers will not tell you about, membership in communist parties or other political organizations, employment in certain technical ratings, work plans (e.g., if the Consular Officer has a "haunch" that the beneficiary is coming to the country for the purpose of working rather than marriage). In short, usually there is no way of knowing, they usually won't tell you why, and you might as well not worry yourself sick trying to guess. This is not a court of law, and simply the suspicion of the Consular Officer is all that is required to hold you up. No Senator or Congressman has any power to do anything about other than what you can do yourself which is politely inquire every so often.

You can either use your Embassy's contact information form, or you can call the Department of State (202-663-1225) for status update. Be prepared for not being told any information about your case under that it is under AP and they "don't know when" it will be completed.

On the positive side (if there is one), please remember that you are not going through it alone. Many others are in the same boat. Also, in the end, most of these cases are eventually approved - though some take more than 1 AP & some have to deal with refusals also. Cheer up in that you did not get an outright refusal. That is something to be thankful for at least.

Best wishes.

You left out the important info required to obtain a usable answer. What country are you in??? This is common in many countries.

Whatever it is it may not matter because your case is unique in so many ways. No one here can tell you when the A P period will end. Really no one there can either. These things take a long as they take and never make any sense especially to those that are waiting.

dina. Getting a visa is really a serious one. But, all you have to do is to have a higher level of patience. Just be positive and one day you'll just be waking up with the visa right next to you. :) Keep on prayin'! If the process takes too long then beat it! Have a longer patience for it. :) There is no direction to go but to go up. :)
