I mostly wanted to post this as an FYI because of something that happened to my fiance and I. We went to file for his social security number the day after her arrived in the US. Mostly because it was a free day and an excuse to drive somewhere to show him a little more of the area we are living in. The man at the Social Security Administration Office was very surprised and told us that you must be in the US for 10 days before they can process your Social Security Application. Just keep that in mind.

Hi, We went on the 7th day of Hany's arrival and were told to return after he had been in the US for 10 days also. We went back and it was issued. Received it in the mail in 5 days. Good Luck :)

Thanks! Somehow I must have overlooked that statement. No worries though. The man said he'd hold our applicaiton for 10 days and file it for us so we didn't have to make a 2nd trip. We got a letter on Saturday saying that they had received our application and we should get the card in 7-10 days. So no issue for us either except for appearing over eager! LOL

Lol we went aftr 2 weeks of my arrival and they told me to visit again since they didn't have any record and when we applied like aftr 10 days , everything went smoothly and I received my security card in 10 days

  • NOA1 - November 2010
  • NOA2- May 2011
  • took a break due to personal reasons and slowed down the process
  • Documents sent to NVC - 30 October 2011
  • *RFE received : missing DS 230{part 2} & a signature of AOS form - November 3,2011
  • Case Complete - Nov 16 2011
  • Interview scheduled - Nov 29,2011
  • Medical Done- DEC 31,2011 (Lahpre wilshire hospital)
  • Interview - Jan 31,2012
  • Result- approved ( thank you Allah)
  • Pasaport in hand with visa Feb 2,2012
  • POE JFK may 12 ,2012
  • Green card in hand may 31 ,2012
  • June 11 ,2012 social security # recieved

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.
