I-130 Processing Time

Hi All,

I am wondering, and looking at the processing times for USC vs. LPR for the I-130, where is most of the time for the LPR wait spent? Does the process go at the same rate until it reaches the point where there needs to be a Visa # assigned? or do the NOA1, NOA2, etc, etc steps take longer for the process as as LPR?

If the process takes about 5 months for a USC, would it also take 5 months for a LPR if the visa # were immediatly available as well?

Basically you will be waiting at every stage of the process. USCIS tends to take longer to approve LPR cases, although this seems to vary somewhat - if I remember correctly, a year ago CSC was approving F2A petitions within five months, but then they slowed down. Our petition is in VSC, and we have been waiting for our NOA2 for ten months now.

After USCIS approval, the case is sent to the NVC, but they will not start processing an F2A case until about a year before they believe the priority date could be current. Thereafter NVC processing can be fast, but once the case is complete, an F2A couple will still need to wait for their priority date to become current before an interview can be scheduled.

Thanks for the reply, my question is very unique to my case since I expect to be able to upgrade the petition once I complete my USC process.

I wanted to confirm that there would be progress in the meantime.
