Other than the visa and consular papers, does my fiance need to bring with her any other documents upon entrance to the US? Like birth certificate etc? And does anyone know how long it takes to get through immigration in Chicago?

Hi songsparrow,

Our POE was Los Angeles, but all that was needed when going through immigration there was the mystery brown envelope, I-94 card (received when boarding the plane) and declaration form.

My fiancee had her 'brown envelope' out in her hand when approaching the arrivals hall. This was visible to the officials there and they spotted us and directed us into the correct line to be processed together.

Times will vary depending on how many international flights are arriving at the same time. Is this the final destination or will your fiance be making a connecting flight? If the later be sure to allow plenty of time for delays in arrival and processing. The actual time at at the immigration window shouldn't be long but time can be used up waiting in line.

Yeah we have a connecting flight. We should arrive there at 4pm and the next plane leaves at 7pm. It seems alright but I know how lines eat up time!

We had 2.5 hours for our connecting flight, but due to a 1.5 hour delay in Hong Kong we ended up missing our connection in LAX. It ended up working out quite nice as the airline put us up in a hotel for the night with some generous food vouchers. We got to relax after the long flight and then fly in the next morning a little more refreshed.
