Hi all,

Just back from my AOS interview at Newark, NJ. It was an interesting experience, to say the least. Finally, I was told I have been approved. Will post my detailed interview experience soon, it is yet to sink in! :unsure:

After leading me through a few tense moments, the IO said he was recommending me for approval and that my card would be in the mail in 2-3 weeks. He took my I-94 and my EAD card. However,he neither gave me an approval letter nor stamped my passport. Also, my online case status is still in the Interviewing/Testing stage.

Result: Though the IO told me verbally that I have been approved, I have no proof of approval for the next few weeks till my card arrives. Is this normal? What if someone had wanted to travel or wanted to get into a new job without waiting for the card to arrive?

Just asking to find out if anyone has had a similar experience. Also, how many days after your AOS interview does your online case status change?

Hi. First of all congratulations on your approval. I read from several approved experience that sometimes the IO doesn't give out approval letter on the interview, they now mail it to you. As for the stamp, they stopped stamping passport years ago. I am not sure if there are still some offices that do that though. I am also from the March filers thread and I am interested to know your experience as I am also interviewing at NEWARK in a couple of days.

Don't worry too much. As long as you were told you are approved then that means you are approved. God Bless!

It is getting pretty rare for the IOs to give the stamp as a result of the interview from what I have observed on these boards. In most cases the IOs still have to run the recommendation for approval by their higher-ups, which is also why they can't give out a formal letter or the stamp at the interview. You'll probably see the online status change within the next 48 hours, and you should be getting the email notification at the same time.

What if someone had wanted to travel or wanted to get into a new job without waiting for the card to arrive?

People with a need to travel or get a job can schedule an InfoPass appointment and request an I-551 stamp, or they can try to get one at the interview. The USCIS officer will usually require that it be an urgent need.

I have also heard that USCIS will advise people with advance parole and an urgent need to travel to continue to use AP until they have their Green Card. But for some reason, USCIS required one person to report back to the port of entry after the Green Card was received, so that CBP could update its database to show that the person had entered as an LPR instead of a parolee.

Yes it is normal. The GC comes pretty fast on the heels of the interview - if you are approved.

Unless you want to travel within the next one or two weeks after interview, no need to waste USCIS stamp ink.

Your online status will change anytime after the interview. Mine changed the next day.

OP - The card will be at your house within 10 business days, and you will get three emails about it :)
