Hi all,

I got admission for my masters degree into a school in the united states. I am terrified i will be denied visa because of the following reasons;

1. I was denied a visiting visa in december because of inadequate ties to Nigeria.

2. I got admission into Maths and Statistics dept for masters, which is quite related but not the same as my first degree(computer engineering)

3. My sponsor is my uncle and we do not share the same surname, tho his account statement is very buoyant and he wrote a letter to the embassy stating that he is my uncle and would like to fund my fees.

Note that I have all my documents completed-i-20, sevis and proof that i can pay my fees.

Also note that my intended visit in december had absolutely nothing to do with my admission, infact, i had started applying for my masters before then ; i just wanted to spend xmas with my uncle's family.

what kind of questions should i expect and how should i respond?

Thank you.

3 issues I see

1) you have family in the US

2) you were denied another non-immigrant visa for lack of ties

3) you are dealing with the highest fraud consulate in the world

What ties do you have to Nigeria to combate these issues

Good luck

When you were denied the tourist visa, what reasons did you give for visiting?

How have your ties to Nigeria strengthened since the denial?

I agree with CW... main question is what are your ties to Nigeria? What are the reasons you would return to Nigeria once your education is complete?

Also important is how are you related to your uncle? Without reason no one would just sponsor (be willing to pay someone else's education boarding etc.)

Do not be a pessimist. If you want positive results then think of positive vibes and things also. Your problem is simple but really toilly. We all know that transferring from a country to another requires some sort of security, so as the migrating citizens we should go with the flow of it.

If you want to lessen your worries up, all you have to do is to first clear all the conflicting issues that you see on your application. Then after that, make the next move for your application.

So the uncle who is financially supporting you for F-1 is a UC citizen living in US? and you tried to spend Christmas with the same uncle instead of your family back in Nigeria?? I don't know how important Christmas is in Nigeria, but in US it's kind of big deal spending Christmas with family, not with uncle's family in oversea unless you really have no tie with your family....ok I understand your worry now. You really need to show your ties to Nigeria. Showing a strong tie with your uncle in US is not going any good when you're applying for NON-immigrant visa....

I would expect a challenge....why? because here you are, just a few months later, now 'suddenly' wishing to attend a college in the same town as....your uncle....the VOs will still need to be convinced of your return after your studies...what can you truly offer, besides the usual..'Oh, I promise I will come back because I want to start a business...' (the most common reply, but in reality the odds of a foreign student returning to a developing country and start a business is roughly the same as the sun burning out tomorrow)

Nothing will have changed in YOUR circumstances (from what has been posted)...a student visa applicant must convince the VO they will return..period.

this may well look as though you are searching for a new and improved reason for GOING to the US without having an overwhelmingly strong reason to DEPART the US.
