What is a good way to make a lot of friends and networking? I graduated college in US and went on OPT. I switched jobs several times because they didn't want to support H-1 at the end. Came back to Japan, got married, and waited till now for my visa approval. So, I don't have much job experience although I'm in the late 20s. Also I'm not too comfortable with a corporate environment. So I decided to make some friends first, do some networking and find a job from there. I really should start working immediately upon arrival, but this time I'm staying there permanently, so I want to do something I really like. I might take a temporary job though like waiting table till I find something.

From other threads, I found following to be valuable to try:

Volunteering at the local Chamber of Commerce,

volunteermatch.org,

meetup.com

Is there any other thing I can try to find a local job or get go know with local people? I live in Alhambra, CA which is the "New" Chinatown in LA area. I'm also afraid that job hunting in Alhambra and the surrounding area could be difficult because I don't speak Chinese? What do you think about that if you're in the area? I might have to drive more?

......Thanks!
