Hi, has anyone who has had there interview at London Embassy for a family based visa (IR1) been in Administrative Processing for over 1 year like me? also has anyone tried to do something about this e.g apply for a writ of mandamus, any other suggestions

I haven't been in AP, but I know that you will be asked to provide more details on your particular situation so that people can give you specific advice.

There is another post on here based on Mandamus which could give you a few ideas and advice.

Good Luck.

I don't know of anybody reporting in this forum of a solution. They won't tell you why, for how long, or what they are checking. There is an AP tracker thread somewhere, but not in the UK forum. There's a UK couple Adnan&Liane who are/were in AP that might have some posts.

Edit: Found the thread Really long but you might find some good discussion http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/145739-ap-tracker/page__st__2805__p__5112549__hl__administrative+processing+tracker__fromsearch__1#entry5112549

how about if i contact the ombudsman team and see if they can help, as attoneys in the UK say this is very unusual for it to take so long, one attoney said the longest it has ever taken one of thier client was 3 months, any advise please

I know of a few who were regulars in this UK forum that took longer than 3 months. Treehugger dropped out before saying when the visa actually arrived but it was already at 9 months. Here's a post from her

My interview was 22nd Feb and it went well and I was approved. 17 days later I still had no passport so I called to see if it had been lost...I was told that I was in AP. My husband has contacted his senator and his congressman numerous times. Still waiting

MARM has documented steps they took in her timeline. It was around 6-7 months. http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/profile.php?id=57966

Treehugger was a white British born and raised female. Marm's fiancé was on a student visa in the UK and was from Pakistan.

You can try anything you like to see if you can shake the petition loose or to get someone to more actively get the answers they need for approval. Sometimes they request another post to pull a physical file. Maybe they need to try again to get the info. I don't think they will tell you what they are waiting on but maybe regular requests will prompt whomever may have forgotten about it to wake up and try harder.

What have you come up with as possible reasons?? Country of birth? Frequent visits to the "T" countries? Common name? Special scientific training or occupation? Have you ever been questioned or interviewed about an acquaintance who committed a crime or was a terrorist suspect? Your name could pop up as a hit if you were a witness for example. The file would have to be reviewed to determine you were not the suspect.

Seems like we are both on the same boat :( , I have my IR-1 case forwarded from US embassy Islamabad to London back in April 2011. US embassy London asked to resubmit new Medical and Police certificate from UK. After submitting both them things, i didn't hear anything from the embassy, few weeks later I called their premium telephone number and was given a special code that one need to send email BS.. Embassy’s response against my email was short and sweet “Your case is under additional administrative processing and it could take anywhere from one day to whatever it take in other word indefinite time period, it was kind of expected due to typical Muslim first and last name and I am from the list of “T” countries.

From May 2011 to Dec 2011 I made number of calls to Department of state to get an update on my case, but their response was the same “pending admin processing”.

Mid Dec 2011 wify called Senator Casey and asked for their intervention, after senator’s office send them an email they scheduled me for the second interview, on the day of interview everything went nice & smooth, but at the end of the interview I was told that my case require some additional admin processing and they returned my passport. It’s been almost little over three months since I had my second interview, I didn’t hear anything from the embassy. Yesterday when I called the Embassy I was asked not to call again, embassy will contact me when my case is done administrative processing.

Since I have tried all my avenues and ran out of all the options, I consulted with a lawyer and will be filling writ of mandamus as my last resort sometimes this month.
