Hi everyone, i just want to ask for assistance and guidance regarding traveling in U.S.A. I know its not easy and it will take time. I really want to visit my special friend(girl) soon who is studying in San Francisco. I miss her so much and i can't wait to be with her soon. Fortunately, she got her residency. I am a registered nurse here in Philippines and I heard a lot of news that U.S embassy is quietly irritated with this profession. I'm also single(female) and for sure they'll be in doubt that maybe I'll find someone in states so i can avail residency. I'm looking forward to hear it from those authority, experts and knowledgeable ones. Thank you. God bless.

You'll have to apply for a toursit visa, unless...do you have one already?

what ties do you have to PI? Showing why you want to go to the US is irrelevant, showing why you must return to PI is essential

Good luck

You apply for a tourist visa like everyone else and YOU have to PROVE that you will not remain in the US but will return to the PI after your trip. Proof is in the form of monetary obligations like work, property, and other items that cannot be easily abandoned or are significant enough in size to make the IO thinky you will return after your trip. You have two strikes against you as you are a single female and come from a country where people want to immigrate to the US to have a better life. You can apply, but remember that the visa fee is not refundable so if denied you loose the money. I would look at your ties to the PI and if you feel they are strong enough, this must be done without emotion becauase everybody says they will return but you have to proove this to the IO at the Embassy who looks at thousands of these every year.

If you can afford the visa fee then apply and see what happens and make certain you have all documentation showing strong ties to the PI.

Good luck,

Dave

The OP is correct that the VOs will be very leery of her application because of the vast numbers of Filipina nurses who have had those ever famous 'mind changes' upon arrival...and because many hospitals are eager to find ways to hire them because they save money (and sadly often use underhanded ways to have them 'consult' or something when in reality they are working)...I would expect some difficulty because quite honestly they are going to wonder why you would return to your profession in the PI which I imagine pays a fraction of what you might earn in the US.....

You need a B-2 visa. For that, you need to prove strong ties to the PI, such as a stable job, owned property, strong family ties etc. Basically anything that would show beyond doubt that you plan to return home.

Basically, the officer interviewing you has to be satisfied that you will not stay in the US longer than 6 months max, and that you will not work or study there.

Thank you for all your replies. So now, I am going to apply for B-2 as a tourist. My question now is what can you suggest for my reason of traveling u.s? Honestly, i have my stable job but insufficient properties like land title and huge amount of money in my bank account. I did travel in Asia like Thailand, Hongkong, China,Macau and Dubai. Do you think it would help?

Your opinions and suggestions are sincerely appreciated.

Um...isn't your reason to visit the US to go and see your special girl friend? So why are you asking us for reasons to go to the US?

Tell the truth

Good luck

Thank you for your reply. Yes, that's exactly my reason. Still, Im asking for some advice because i think it is too shallow for me to be given a tourist visa. Is in it right?

No reason is "too shallow." They don't care why you're going, as long as the purpose is for tourism/visiting only. If your reason for travel was to sit around on a random person's couch for 6 months, you'd still qualify, if the CO believed it to be true.

The US profits immensely on international tourism. It's one of the largest economic sectors in the country. That's why the tourist visa exists. Meanwhile, the US loses millions of dollars to illegal immigration and illegal work. So while legitimate tourism of virtually any type is highly encouraged, overstay and visa fraud is not. That's why the COs can be as strict as they sometimes are.

Thank you for that Mr. jaejayC.

I'm planning to have my travel for a week or 2 weeks probably on 17th of Sept. onwards. I want to celebrate my birthday which is on 21st of Sept. in states with my special girl friend. Do you think if I apply this July I can still be able to meet my goal? I haven't started my application yet so far. Do you have a sample of application form (B-2 tourist visa or is it really from embassy which I need to pay ahead of time?

Thank you for those who will respond :)

The new B-2 application is electronic, you should be able to find it on the US Embassy Manila's website. After filling it out online, it'll give you options for an interview date which you can pick yourself.

I have no idea what the waiting times are in the Philippines. At many consulates you can get an interview date in a few weeks or at least within a month or so though, and you usually get approved or denied on the spot. If you don't plan to leave until September, you have time.

One more thing is, does US Embassy really particular with the amount of money I have in my bank account and if it was kept for long period of time?

They'll just want to make sure you can afford your vacation. There are no set limit, or set amount that you need to prove. Just that you can realistically afford your vacation.

How heavily they scrutinize that really depends on the consulate. In one country they might want bank records and pay stubs, in another they might not even ask at all. I'd ask in the Philippines thread in the regional forum.

Why does it matter? It is a factor like so many other things, why do you not just apply and see what happens?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
